Title: Remap to VOLKSWAGEN Golf 1.9 TDi 110ps to 150ps
Post by: smiiithy on 09 December 2009, 18:46
Hi guys,

I was wondering if somebody could give me some advice. I'm looking at buying a VOLKSWAGEN Golf 1.9 TDi (97 - 04).

What I want to know is could I buy say a 2003 1.9 GT TDI (110ps) and remap it to the same as a 2003 1.9 GT TDI (150ps) without changing any other parts?

Cheers,

Mike

Hello,

The 110 AHF & ASV engines uses the older mechanical pump fuel delivery and the by remapping you will get close on 140bhp, but by fitting .216 nozzles. and a custom remap should see you closer to 160+bhp, for more power you will need a bigget turbo and remap to match.

If your looking for a and your planning on tuning go for one of the PD version, 115bhp 130bhp or 150bhp, all of the PDs can be tuner really well with the stock parts, plus its very easy to go donw the bigger turbo route.

So any Volkswagen Golf Hatchback (97-04) 1.9 TDI 115bp, 130bhp or 150bhp should all be the PD's?

Basically I'd much rather have a 150bhp but obviously insurance is cheaper for the lower BHP models and I'm having trouble working out which is PD and which is not. Here are insurance quotes for a few different models:

VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GT TDI (110BHP) 1896cc 5 DOOR 1998-----£754.10

VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GT TDI (115) 1896cc 3 DOOR 1999----- £754.10

VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GT TDI PD (130) 1896cc 5 Door 2001-2003 £754.10

VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GT TDI PD (150) 1896cc 5 DOOR 2002-----£848.60
VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI TDI PD (150) 1896cc 5 Door 2002-----£974.60

VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GT TDI PD (180) 1896cc 2002-----£1,009.25

Is this http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/VOLKSWAGEN+GOLF/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-51-111-240-4294966835-4294966886/advert.action?R=200948347083584&distance=89&postcode=NE23+7XJ&channel=CARS&make=VOLKSWAGEN&model=GOLF&min_pr=&max_pr=&max_mileage=&vehicleYearOfManufacture=2002&vehicleRegLetter=02 (I think http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Detail.aspx?deriv=22401) a PD?

Does  anyone know if all VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GT TDI (150) 1896cc 5 DOOR 2002 are PD's? There is only the PD option on the drop down for 150's but I don't have the reg of the car I'm interested in to be sure.

Oops. Little did I realize I've been making my car insurance quotes £50 more expensive by putting Immobilizer & Tracker instead of Engine Immobilizer so it's only £794.00 for the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GT TDI PD (150) 1896cc 5 DOOR 2002

Does this car have any security features?
Engine Immobilizer £794.00

you've answered your own question early in the thread but yes 115bhp, 130bhp and 150bhp are all PD engines

There was NEVER a PD180bhp so your insurance company is wrong; only the petrol's came in 180bhp form

Car has a Thatcham Category 1 alarm and immobiliser fitted as standard

Nick,

What is the price of a R-Tech Spec1 remap for a golf?

If I was to have a remap done on a Golf 4 1.9 TDI PD 150 by R-Tech and took it to 190bhp do you have any figures on estimated 0 - 60 and top speed I might expect?

And if I decided I wanted to make other performance enhacing mods would you recommend doing these before or after the remap or does this not matter?

Cheers,

Mike

don't get hung up on 0-60 and top speed figures as these won't change much (prob a second off 0-60) and top speed is unlikey as the gearing remains the same

Its the 30mph + figures that you'll see the biggest change - expect a couple of seconds knocked off 30-70, 40-80 etc etc

No other upgrades a required for a Spec 1 map either   just make sure your car is in tip top working order otherwise a remap will multiply your problem

Haven't bought it yet and will be running it for a while before I go ahead with the remap. I'm going from a Clio 1.5 dCi 65 so I think shaving 6 seconds off my 0 - 60 is enough for now. 190 BHP might be a bit much until I get used to the car

haha yeah the Golf should be a fair bit quicker    Just perhaps don't expect it to handle as well as the Clio  :undecided: out of the box the Golf is pretty poor in standard form

Good luck with your search :afro:

0-60 time for a remapped 130pd on the will be around 2 seconds flat....on the dyno..lol  in the real would I would not have a clue, but in most cases a remap will shave 2 seconds off a 3/4 mile time.  The price of the remap will be £250 all inc, which includes rr and diagnostics.

And I take it I'd need to get to Hinckley for it to be done properly? Could you please tell me the major differences between the R-Tech map and something such as this:

Tuning box and a good remap = night and day :lipsrsealed:

40bhp 60lbft from a tuning box which only changes the fuel injection quantity, IMO I think is a bit optimistic.  If I remapped a TDI by another 40bhp just by adding extra fuel then there would be lots of smoke, to keep the black smoke down you need to up the boost to clean the burn.   With a remap you can change the injection timing, software torque limiters, Fuel IQ on a linear scale, IQ vs boost to limit the smoke, pump scales ect..

The box might well give the power gains, but I have never see a box make quoted power more like 25bhp/35lbft.

Ah I suppose. I was offered £50 discount for repeat custom and £70 December offer though so it would have only been £175. Travel to get it remapped is the only problem.

Well the search is national so if you see a GT TDi 130 with under 130K miles and it looks like a good one give me a shout. Budget is up to £4K depending on age, condition, mileage and extras. Closer to Newcastle the better mind because I traveled to Bradistan on Sunday only to be messed about and gave the trader a good telling
