Had a couple of hours to spare this afternoon so thought it best to get around to fitting the Newsouth Boost Gauge I bought the other week
However I didn't buy a standard off the shelf pod as a) not a fan b) some are more expensive than the gauge itself! :shocked:
My initial idea was to replace the drivers vent with a normal standard one. Started taking things apart and then thought it might look a bit rubbish not having the vent light up so I started modifying my current bora vent to make the gauge fit
I'll take some more pictures in the daylight but here's a couple for now

Need to plumb it in the bay but I didn't have anything suitable to blank off the 'no buzz t piece so I'll hopefully find something in work

it needed a fair bit of trimming lol
I removed all the vent bits; slats etc; then I a bit out where the bottom adjuster is and did the same right through the vent so the gauge sort of sits 'in' the vent
also then realised I had to drill a hole into the vent recess as there's no way of running the boost line in there lol
I'll try and take some pictures in the daylight tomorrow to show how I modded the vent :smiley:

I'll be plumbing it in tomorrow lunch time - literally only got to screw in the take off and blank off the t piece - I've already routed the boost line into the bay via the wing :wink:

well its taken a lot less time to fit this than my auto dimming mirror :lipsrsealed: That's next on my list.....I think :undecided:

Resistor? :huh: do you mean the 'no buzz' piece? :undecided:
I got one to fit as the one supplied with my kit doesn't fit the take off on my EGR delete pipe - thread is different so I had to get the 1.8T piece and mod it to fit though I need to blank off one end which is tomorrow's job :smiley:

No,mine came with a little resistor to fit into the illumination wiring,it dulls the illumination so it's a perfect match to the clocks.Maybe they have perfected the colour now.

ah right - didn't get anything like that; just some scotch locks, cable ties, and some piping

Yeah i too got one of those resistors but never fitted it. Colour matches perfectly though.
I too cut my std vent and fitted the gauge accordingly

That looks like a good job well done, i do prefer that over the steering column mounted ones as i imagine they get in the way of viewing the clocks.
Do you live near me i could let you do mine :laugh:

bah - nothing is fooking straightforward is it :sad:
went to connect it all up at lunchtime; simples plugged in the t piece, connected it up and went for a spin; saw a MAX of 5PSI :shocked: :undecided: Urm, no thats not right.......
So had a look around; couldn't see anything obvious - nothing trapped etc....so tried the t piece a different way and lo and behold it works! except it now buzzes again..........
After speaking with Mr Dave I believe I somehow need to connect one end back into the system much like you petrol lads do.....any suggestions? :undecided:

took a bit of hacking as you can see from the pics but otherwise it was fairly straightforward :smiley:

right - looks like I was a bit of a numpty and fitted it the wrong way........
the T of the part goes to the boost gauge and NOT from the EGR delete :embarassed:
I'll swap it around later and report back :smiley:

I'll be looking into doing that at a later point :smiley: Though I still want some air to travel through the vent to help keep my window free of mist.
The slats also control a vent at the back similar to the one found on a standard air vent so in effect you get two block off points :nerd:
I'll venture back out in a bit and fit the t piece correctly.........

What Wes is referring to is what was my actual problem at the very end.......
I did refit the t piece correctly before I set off home only to see zero boost :sad: Got home (went the gym) then got out my torch and had a poke around. Turned out I'd kinked the pipe running into the back of the gauge :embarassed:
Unkinked and took it for a quick spin :evil: Only a short piece of road but I saw 27PSI at approx 2200rpm, then 23PSI at approx 3500rpm before settling at 20PSI at the redline or thereabouts; that was done in 2nd and 3rd
So I finally have a working, non buzzing boost gauge :grin: :grin:

its the 29 on the standard map that would worry me the most :undecided:

Quick test on my private runway this morning shows a healthly 23PSI at 4000rpm in 3rd and 4th gears :cool:
