As i said in the mk6 section
For me the Golf R will have to be a hell of a lot better to drive than the S3 to justify the larger price (~£4K(You can get S3s new for £25K), the R has a much lower equipment spec as standard and lower badge than the S3, and i just cannot see it from previous drives of haldex equipped cars for it to be that much different to drive. I wait and see, but i think people who are ordering before even trying it are simply barmy.

Porsche 996 Turbo with the X50 power pack, aero kit and a DMS remap will get you 500+whp (approx 600bhp) for £35k ish. £110k when new!!!

Not quite £40k. I specced one with a few sensible options at a little over £31k. (£32k with Adaptive Suspension: Tried it, not sure if it's worth it). Still too much, unfortunately.

Don't quite see why everyone is saying what s/h cars you can get for the same money. It's like saying you can get a used Rolls Royce for the price of a new Mini, so you'd be stupid to buy a Mini!

Okay then,

Audi S3 - cheaper
TT-S - Cheaper
Focus RS - Much cheaper (but not as fast )
and a lot of very nearly new demo cars
