These ones any good?
They are fluro lined , so the oil will not eat in to them again

Yeah they're fine apart from the silly logo on them and the price!
These are what we have paid to develop
The logo is on to show that
The price may be hight , but the OEM price on one of those hoses is over £20 + VAT
To have a sillicon one , that is fluro lined , then in the long run , it is a good price
The develpment time on these hoses are quite alot
Then the manufacturing of them takes quite a bit of time too

I appreciate all of those points. But personally it's too much to pay for 1 hose that I need and the other that I don't. I don't like the logo unfortunately. I'm sure if I needed both breather hoses I could be swayed but only need the 'Y' shaped one.
-
We can`t sell them seperately , but both are common to fail
On the Briskoda forum , it was arranged for 2 people who needed one of each of the hoses to buy a kit between them
Then we arranged postage too
So was good in the long run

That's a possible idea, any one want the lower breather hose?!
I may have a look at the 'other' one though to check its condition.
-
i dont understand how yours are £60+ and this guy on ebay can sell them for £15?
i have a set and they are amazing quality for the price!

Ours have a bit more effort put in to them
We have seen many many of them fail
They are not there to look pretty , they are there to never fail again
One of the main reasons that these fail is the oil in the atmoshere of these hoses eat in to the rubber
So specail sillicon one was made up for them
These are all hand made within the UK too , then fluro lines
So they will never fail again
Sarah
If the OEM ones are over £20 for one and they fail , is a £15 one going to be better?

someone i know has got the awesome breather pipes and they are exactly the same as the cheap ebay one!
-
Volksbits on ebay shall be getting more in soon but have changed who makes them.
-

These are completely different!!!
Ours are made by SFS , in the UK
To our specifications , CHEAP Ebay ones are not fluro lined are will be cheap , so not as strong and will not last as long

A little info on fluro hoses
Made to order, Fluoro lined silicone hoses use a specially compounded silicone called FluoroSilicone.
Standard Silicone rubber is porous, therefore not suitable for oil/gaz and fuel.
This grade is specially formulated to prevent oil from penetrating the wall.
Because the FluoroSilicone material is a very expensive material many of our competitors dilute (cut) the material
to save money such as 60/40 or even 50/50 mix by adding large quantities of fillers.
This of course reduces the resistance to oils

sadly Sarah if only that were the case

Oooh blimey
That is not good
Have you been back in touch with SFS?
I must admit , that is the first I have seen
But then to be fair , I dont think those ones are lined , but to be fair I could be wrong
When did you get them?
Have you been in touch to report it?

I am still after the lower breather hose Tim! Might just get a standard replacement though as I agree about the price.

The top hose takes 5 minutes to replace, so even if the cheap one has to be replaced every couple of years it's not the end of the world.
Buy 3 for less money than the awesome one and Roberts your mothers brother!

 the awesome ones are fookin expensive.. and yes the £15 ebay ones are good quality.. very thick and strong and i cant fault them one bit .. and especially for the price

Talked to a seller on eBay before I did some of my silicone and here is what he said:
"All the normal silicone is actually resistant to oil vapors/mist, so it will work in the breather system, if a build up occurs of oil, like in a breather system such as it becomes a solid/liquid deposit. Then that will slowly wear away, only cure is to change silicon or buy thicker stuff to begin with as it will still happen, the difference maybe visible sooner or later but it will happen, so buying thicker stuff to begin with is always a better choice. Another choice is an oil catch can that’s meant to aid and reduce oil deposits in the system
Only time I would advise other silicone is if you are working with fuel or the oil pumping/cooling side, then you need special silicone which becomes pricey as it is specifically designed to withstand long term and extreme conditions"
I am more than happy to believe him, as I’ve seen how easy it was to cut the silicon in the car where the deposits were and weren't. But for that price from AwesomeGTI, I would turn away, I have spent £160 changing all my breather piping, vacuum and TIP for that price, most expensive silicone was for the breather and I made a mount and installed an oil catch can. Heres a break down:
£90 TIP
£30 Breather piping "coupling silicone" (0.75m) + Joints
£40 Vacuum piping (3m of one size and 2m of another) with Jubilees
I bought a oil catch can for another £15 which I made a mount and colour coded the mount with the car, I will upload some pictures later of how it turned out, my only advice is if you do install an oil catch can, for it to be effective the piping must be flat level or descending when it head to the breather, ascending the piping or not keeping it level will reduce the oil catch cans effect, as the oily vapors have to travel upwards, whilst an oil catch can, catches oil via gravity, so you kind of eliminate or reduce the effect of it by having ascending piping.
It’s like fiber glassing the dots on the engine cover, then smoothing it, why not use paper-Mache, why not use that instead its fire and water proof, plus far cheaper.
Hope this helps, just my two pence
EDIT: here my engine with the breather silicon, before I added the oil catch can, TIP and replaces vacuum piping, I'll take a more recent one soon:

What paint finish is that on the Intake and the rocker cover? looks tidy
and also, what type of tubing are you using for the piece above the throttle body etc...
Cheers

Powder coat finish, pain to keep clean if you spill anything on it, from spirit to oil, looks nice but a pain for keeping clean got some interest down prept for it as I went DIY with it.
As for the tubing I used normal Vacuum silicone (easy to bend and thicker than the standard stuff), dead on 3m's of it (think I used like 2.7~8m of it), as you replace a lot of the engine with it, from the piping to the TB, to the piping to the inlet manifold, to the vacuum reservoir, to the TIP, to the brake boost feed, which it also fits. But cannot be seen in the picture due to the aluminum tubing on top of it. Believe it was "8mm ID" which is like 3.99 a meter, but I will check the size tomorrow incase I'm wrong.
As for the piping from the DV to the fuel regulator that is 3mm ID vacuum tubing (same as above just smaller ID), 100% sure that’s the size, you will need 1 meter of it as you only use like 40cm of it on the fuel regulator, and you only use it once more somewhere else (think it was under the manifold).
As for the breather piping that was a different silicone, think it was called "coupling silicone" it comes in 3-4ply, its really thick and strong, as well as hard to bend, so buy some joints if you are going to use it, a lot more expensive too, about £9.99 for half a meter, I ended up using 1m in all, 3 of 30cm's and a 10cm piece, but this will vary on using joints and where the oil catch can is located.
If you plan on changing the silicone between the DV and SMIC pipe, then the diameter is 25mm ID, I haven’t done it yet, as I will be fitting a FMIC sooner or later. The silicone will be 25mm ID Vacuum tubing and you will only need 50cm's of it, but what I discovered is, you will need to buy a 90degree 25mm joint as its such a huge diameter it caves inwards when bent unlike the smaller diameter stuff, so a 90degree joint is a must if you are changing this, about £6.99 for 50cm's for this and another £2.99 roughly for the bend, which come in plastic or aluminum.

is the coupling silicone oil resistant though?
-
is the coupling silicone oil resistant though?
All silicone from vacuum to coupling is oil vapors/mist resistant, only time it will decay is if there is a build up of a liquid or solid oil substance. That’s when you will require specialized silicone, such as on the oil cooling side; on the breather system it won't make a difference, especially when coupling silicone is 3-4ply and thick. You see 5ply on a good TIP and 3ply on poor TIP (quality in the ply is another factor). The coupling silicone is very thick stuff, doubt it'd degrade anywhere near as quick as the standard VW stuff if there is a build up, due to the amount of silicone it has to go through. But build up can be reduced by oil catch can, frequent oil changes and not ragging the car... but where is the fun in that!
I guarantee the AwesomeGTI stuff 5-10 years down the line will start to see the same fate as the standard equipment, as the car vibrates which long term will probably cause the protective skin to crack slowly, but surely.
I just can’t justify that price for a pipe that will suffer the same fate, where I was able too fit a oil catch can and replace allot more silicone for a similar rate.
-
can't you get that catch can to sit down by the battery somewhere?
-
Probably could, I just made a mount and reused studs next to the sensor on the back of the engine bay, just die cut them to a m5 size and bobs my uncle. I imaging you could just use a L/right angle bracket and attatch it to the battery stand as an alternative.

Golf-sib. you going eastern-dubs next week?
Never been eastern dub's, heard of it if it is the right one I'm thinking which is gallions reach?
I might give it a go, just don't know anyone there, so it will be awkward if I do go
-
yeah its gallions reach... i've never been but i know one person who's going so i might go along with BaV
-
Back to this thread again I'm afraid; It looks like I have a leak in one of breather hoses, as picked up by R Tech during my remap and I'd like to replace all of them in one go. I've found these in Volksbits on Ebay, please can someone confirm that they're the only ones that tend to leak or if there are any others I should order? My Golf is an AUM btw.
