Just visited UK's configurator, when you add the RCD510 in place of the RCD310, it says the MDI will be removed?
So does this mean you cant use a RCD510 with MDI? can anyone confirm please

^ Its a mistake on the configurator. Yes you can use it with the 510

Dealer supplied accessories

its from the price list for the mk6 golf listed under dealer supplied accessories. Not sure exactly what you will need with it.

Media- in-interface (plays Ipod,MP3,USB) part number 5N0 057 342   £150.20 in the UK including taxes.

They also list the cables seperate at £31.50 each

Just checked on the configurator, the RCD510 with Dynaudio says it only includes aux-in:

"RCD 510 touch screen radio system with 'Dynaudio' soundpack, including dash-mounted 6 CD autochanger, 6 1/2" colour touch-screen, SD card reader, MO3 and WMA data files compatibility and Aux-in socket for connection to external audio source (i.e. iPod or MP3 player)."

The same with the RNS 510

"DVD touch-screen navigation/radio system With 6 1/2" colour touch-screen - DVD based planning and route guidance with live traffic updates, multifunction computer (highline), 30 GB hard drive, SD card reader, MO3, WMA and DVD video data files compatibility and Aux-in socket for connection to external audio source (i.e. iPod or MP3 player) and 6CD autochanger in lieu of MDI"

Does anyone have a golf 6 gti with the RCD510 or RNS510 with MDI, working 100%? wonder why they would take it out when upgrading from a RCD310 to 510.. did it come standard? did you upgrade?

The 6CD takes the place of the MDI in the armrest. You only lose the MDI if you have the CD changer

i thought the 6CD was built in into the RCD10 unit.  I have the RCD510 and there's no separate CD changer.  Prob is that I don't play CDs!  a few gig SD card is all I need!!

Maybe I've misread you but the 6CD doesn't take the place of the MDI. The 6 CD player is part of the RCD510 which you can have with the MDI.

Ah right that makes sense.
Not sure why anyone would want to add a 6 CD player as an extra though when there are loads of other options to play music.
Especially when there is a big hard drive to add your music.

i suppose it's a little like the argument between manual and DSG  some people may not have a computer for iPod or MP3s and are more 'old-skool' and prefer just buying a CD from a shop and then they can play it straight away in the car.

Yeah that's true.
We just seem spoiled for a music source
CD
Ipod
SD card
USB drive
Streaming from mobile if you have the telephone facility installed.

Some audiophiles hate compressed music with a passion even when played through such a crap stereo as the golf has. As they can hear it.
I refuse to play anything thats not a lossless type format because of this. Even then you can hear a slight difference but i can put up with that for the conveniance.

Maybe also the cd changer maybe MP3 compatiable so you could burn quite a few discs rather than have to shell out for an ipod or fiddle with memory sticks that you may not be able to play at home.

You don't need a computer or bother going to a shop. I can connect to itunes on the iphone and download an album directly to the phone and then plug it in and play.  I'm 40 and drive a manual so I'd say i'm old school!!!  I do also have CD's in the 510 though!

oh yes forgot about that too... thanks for pointing that out, i guess i'm pretty old skool when it comes to these things - i used to be a bit of a gadget freak, but that side of things doesn't interest me that much anymore. i still use a 3 year old PC, my mobile phone is 5 years old (and still works somehow...) and i still play PS2
