leaky vac line or dirty/faulty throttle body
how far are the revs jumping?
-
it goes down 2 to 3 mim and up 2 to 3 mm so not much but i wanted an r tech remap but untill its runnin right i aint riskin it please contact back thank you
-
engine revs measured in mm.. brilliant
doesn't sound like it's jumping wildly, most likely throttle body needs cleaning then
-
mm movement of needle i aint a car repairer lol and some times when you go to accelerate its does responed you have to lift ya foot and re apply does this sound like throttle body???? were is throttle body and how much for a new one??? is it a quick job???/ cost etc???
-
if its faulty, new one from a dealer is about 200 quid. A used one off ebay might cost you £80 or less. Cleaning it takes about 30 minutes if it's carbd up bad. Wire wool works well... need to adapt it after cleaning though (search!)
-
where do i locate the throttle body pal i aint into cars fixin that is would i be able to do it by myself

remove four hex head bolts the jubilee clip securing the hose and the small hose at the top of the t/b

If your not confident in repairing a car take it to a local garage recommended locally to you
-

could be worth getting it on vag-com to see if you have any throttle fault codes
-
Why don't you just start with giving it a clean and take it from there? Stop worrying
-
it might be really carbd up and sticking, or it might be broken.. you won't know until you clean it
-
stop worrying ive had the car 2 bloody years and still not got rid of this problem its doin me head in youth so ill get me old man to give it a clean soon and see how it goes cheers and whats a vag com ????
-
it's been doing it 2 years?
vagcom will scan for faults, log live data from various engine sensors and re-adapt your throttle body after it's been cleaned.
-
year and a half and its not bad but its thier me dad says dont let it bother you but it does, re adept throttle body whats that invlove just lining it up??? 51 plate dontit correct itself??? pal
-
the motor needs resetting to it's zero position if it's been sticking. it will adapt itself over some time, but it needs resetting if you want to see instant results.
-

If your old man has been doin cars for 40yrs why dont you get him to do it if you dont know how to fix cars ? you really need to reset the throttle though after you clean it - vagcom , snap-on , reflex etc etc im sure your dad will know how to reset etc with scan tools
-
hi do i need to do the throttle body enlignment on a 51 plate????? or do i just take it off clean it and set the thing to 0 and then start and run car???
-
so its it a special tool to reinlign the thing
-
thought you could clean it yasen set the moter back to o and thats it???
-
clean the throttle body , refit etc and make sure car has no fault codes stored before you do a adaption and as you have a 51 you will have drive by wire so reset body . does your dad have a scanner/code reader ?
-
right i get it clean throttle body set moter to 0 then go to vagcom to get it set up properly??? yeah im i right
-
what you mean set motor to 0 ? and you can use any scanner doesnt need to be a vagcom .
-
no he just takes em to garage to get read still dont under stand tho call me thick i wanna get it right pal if you could explain the full details in order of what i got to do id be gratefull very, i dont under stand why its got to go to be read after cleanin it?
-
topher says motor needs settin to 0 postion once its been cleaned
-
right this is how i done mine -
1 , check for fault codes first with scan tool as you might find another or different problem/fault . mine has code p1297 turbo/throttle housing pressure loss so i cleared code .
2, remove and clean throttle body as shown in pics in the previous posts and refit it
3, use a snap-on , vag com , reflex etc etc scan tool . i use snap-on , plug in set up and go to functional tests in menu and go to adaption . click yes and the throttle adaption will start which the scanner will open and close the throttle butterfly approx 8 times and reset all its values .
4, start car , job done
-
if your dad goes to a garage i would imagine they use snap on as most do , colour graphing , solus , modis etc all do the same
-
thiers no engine light on so do i have to check for codes/?? if so how much wiill garage charge to check??? and then how much after throtle body been cleaned to relign??? cost for both??? cheers youth
-
why don't you ring a local garage and ask them how much they charge??
Labour rates and charges vary across the country so what one pays will not be the same as someone else
