Title: boost gauge fitting
Post by: ipswich1.8t on 08 October 2009, 19:44
well i am now the proud ower of a nice newsouth boost gauge , but i want to fit it in one of the central air vents ...just to be different .. any onr else got one there , are they a pig to fit there ? I've also got some nice blue silicone hose to use instead of the little plastic one you get with it ...thats ok isnt it ?

i was going to try and cut the vent to fit it in , but i've has a go and it dosent look right so now i might just get a piece of black plastic and blank off the vent but i am wondering how to get the pipes and wires out of the back of it ...any ideas ??

It's not quite the central air vent, but how about this:

when installing tinto a vent remember the depth of the gauge, the vent may not be deep enough. I know a driver side Bora vent is not big enough.

I think the middle one is going to be the same without some major cutting so i think i'll just have to get the credit card out and the one from awesome .....

northeast is that where you have to run it off (my gauge is coming monday ).. as i though you run it off the vacum pipe that goes on the dv??  :undecided:

either pipe works there both connected to the inlet i would rather tap the dv though as i wouldnt want my fuel unexpectedly to cut off when driving one day if something you piped wasnt a good long lasting fix if you get what im saying

Just do it properly and then there wont be no problems. how is one easy cut and a T-Piece going to cut off fuel? cable tie the pipe to the T-Piece if you're worried.

Your not mucking abut with fuel lines, that's the vac line that goes to the FPR. All these pipes are linked so it wouln't make any difference if it split there or near the DV, the resulting leak would be the same.

Jase have you tapped into the inlet for that? I don't have a vac line take off there...

T into the vac lines at some point then

Mine is in the same place as Matt's, then I've run the pipe under the injector rail for neatness

yeh, well you should have the m6 hole there but you just need to poke a hole through with a small drill, i used a 3or4mm iirc. i modified a m6 grease nipple. iv got a few of these that il be taking to the rolling road day at R-tech. it was chris's/nicks idea.  and removed the throttle body so i could get a hoover down

ok had a quick look today at where i want to mount mine , and more importantly where to run the pipes ....which is the easiest hole to get them through ? ..I also want to run a power cable through at the same time , is there a whole that can take both of them ???

i ran power cable through hole on the passenger side.. way more convenient and tidy .. you have to remove the trim that just beneath the windscreen and you will see em

should be one on drivers side to.. well i hope so as gonna be doing my boost gauge soon
