Title: Unplugged MAF

Hi all,

Car was running like a bag of bolts so I decided to unplug the MAF and its made such a difference car is great!
so what are the downsides of having a MAF unplugged?

I will be getting a new MAF just wanted to check it wont bork my engine

it runs in safe mode so doesn't control the fuelling, just puts a safe set amount in. Get the MAF ASAP though

Done about 170 miles in it so far, so the MAF is needed urgently then?

what brand is it?? looks like a clone to me  :undecided:  Avoid unless its made by a genuine OEM

yes but the part number of the item is different and it lists those numbers as the ones it will replace......

It has a 1 year guarantee and providing it lasts that long I will be happy.
Will let you know if its rubbish though  :cry:

Hi
Spray some carburettor cleaner on the MAF sensor element and see if that is better.
Is it a four wire plug, check the wires and clean the contacts with a switch cleaner.

this works for awhile and your supposed to use alchol based cleaner
tbh you may as well buy a brand new o.e.m maf from vw

recon maf 80 quid from vw dealer i got mine from about 6 months ago
