guys, would this 037 906 025 B (http://037 906 025 B) ECU from a VW VOLKSWAGEN SHARAN 2L 8V ADY ENGINE work on my 2l 8v ADY golf? ECU number is the same apart from the B is replaced by an A on mine.
Or
Does anybody have a working 037 906 025 A ECU around or knows anybody that does?
-
i dunno if those are interchangeable... probably are but i think you need more than just a part# to be sure... the B means revised i guess, so chips may be different (i'll try to find out tomorrow). Depending on the year there might be some immobiliser coding to do, so you'll need your pin# and vagcom
there's an A version here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-MK3-SIEMENS-ENGINE-ECU-037-906-025-A_W0QQitemZ270277025885QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3eedc4205d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Cheers topher. I'll call the guys with the A ECU and find out if they could go down to £60 including postage, running very low on funds. If not then I guess I'll have to stretch out my legs and take the bullet
-
whats happened to your ecu?
-
danny_p attempted to solder the a chip in, but on the process of removing the old one he ripped 2 tracks. Many repair attempts were made but in the end the ECU was too badly damaged and the chip had ripped all the legs of one side. Was just plain bad luck
-
normally the letter on the end is just a revision. So it shouldnt make a difference, as said just a revised chipset. The part number is the important part.

Well I just bought the one that topher posted a link to, the correct one with correct letter. £83 lighter but at least the car will now work and should be better than ever seeing as we have fixed PAS rack and fitted new ARB bushes
-
might still have immobiliser issues when you put the new one in.. what year is your car? i had to code an ecu for a '96 last week.
-
1995. Should be fine, exact same part number and same version, not a revised one. Fingers crossed.
-
Just remembered. 96 on they are coded. The ady is 95-96, but they ain't coded from what I remember.

I think you will be ok, 1996 on was coded which is around the time they switched to AGG lump.

yup, that's when the revised ECU came out.
-
So it gonna be fixed in time for Saturday?

It shall be fixed within 5 minutes of the ECU arriving though the post

my old 1995 was coded...check your key (the slim mk2 look key is the early non immobiliser version, and the one with the light built in has the code!)
-
My key doesnt have a light in it!
-
I have a key with and wthout light, both coded. Essentially this is the same as engine changing, the keys, ecu and clocks have to be of the same car, or deimmobilised.
-
My key has the light, but I have an aftermarket alarm and immobilizer.
-
btw the last letter of part no is revision so for future reference it would have worked+ poss had some bugs removed/or just some newer bugs lol

No light but have Cobra CAT 1 alarm/immobiliser.

Wouldn't the immobilizer stop it from starting all together?

Imob cuts it after start up. Isn't the key matched to the ECU? Did you get the key?
-
Only thing I got is ECU. The immobilizer I have on at the moment turns off OK. Inside of my key is just a light, no chip or anything.
-
possitive there is no chip, it just looks like i small plastic rectangle, my 95 ady has one, could well be tha problem

+1 It will not stop it starting but cuts in after so could well be your problem.
-
inside my key there is nothing, just battery, a light, and the mental for the contacts. I have a seperate fob for the immob, which turns off correctly.
To decode it, what do I need? just the ECU? Cos I haven't recieved anything else.

Sounds like the new ecu is coded, I believe it can be sorted with vagcom.
-
with vagcom?????? Excellent, Adam has vagcom. I'll give him a ring.

chip is grey rectangle top left
other wise i think vagcom will pair key to ecu or u might need vagtacho or summint?
-
My key ain't got that.
-
f.y.i all ady onward cars had a coded key (mine was one of the first built and had this) but the immobiliser will let the car start and then will cut out...post a pic of your key khare
speak to topher as he's a vag-com/key code wizz
-
I agree! Its the immobiliser!
-
Just spoke to topher, and he confirmed its the immob. Also, checked key, and it does have the chip. He says I need vag tacho to find the pin# then vagcom to decode it. See here (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=130677.0)
-
Good luck! Hope ya get it fixed by Saturday!
-
Topher said that if JKM finish up early enough on Saturday then he will try and pop over and carry out the procedure, but I'm gonna try and find someone else with vag tacho to save topher a long journey. So if anyone has vag tacho in bournemouth area, could they please PM me!
-
ive got a version of tacho but havent used it/ know if it works+ if i need another cable? i have fully working vagcom but dont know if thats enough?
-
oh dear :lipsrsealed:
-
axewielder/topher talk = possible solution

Not sure if anything else is needed. Do you know your way round vagcom/vag tacho?
-
http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/key-matching.html
does this mean you can get the code off of vw+ just use vagcom?
i think you need the proper cable for vagtacho to work, according to mkiv forum
-
i love phone calls like that
him: "hi its andres i have a problem with an ecu in my mk3"
me: "is that that tosser off the forum?"
-
so soes anyone know if we can get the SKC off of vw dealer so that you only need vagcom?

That is for cars after 2002 so it says on the website.
-
http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/immobilizer.html
apparently it would work with 7 digit skc but vw dont give them out since 2005, that is in america though? so you could try asking local dealer if they still do this, otherwise it will have to be vagdash, im sure topher knows more, just trying to find info to help+ see exactly how much i can do with vagcom.
-
Cheers dude, your ace.
If you manage to work out how vagcom and vag tacho works to be able to decode the immob and would be willing to travel to Lymington before Saturday then I could pay you with beers
-
i could on sat some time but pretty sure i need new cable for vagtacho + doesnt look like vagcom will do it on its own, dont know what topher thinks though, he seems to be the expert.
ill have to look tonight to see if i have anymore info on it.
-
Well Saturday I'll be over in Pompey at JKM. I was hoping I'd be able to get her going before Saturday so I could take it with me to JKM for the RR day, if not then toph will hopefully pop round after JKM to sort it out. I'll get a lift there with Adam.
-
could poss do it one evening but dont really want to bother if it looks like we arent going to get anywhere
i get pissed off when i cant fix things lol

Yup. BIG thanks to Toph and Nick from Rtech! Car is now running (sweet...ish). Just needs some fine tuning.
Gotta admit, I over ported the throttle body just a bit too much and now idles VERY lumpy. Need to source another TB from a scrappy at some point and port it properly, with a dremel.
Again, BIG thanks guys and beer and cookies on the shopping list

Glad i could help mate. I was a little concerned that the immo dash light wasn't flashing, but as soon as i saw the dtc for engine start blocked i knew we were on to a winner :afro:

Will do dude. Managed to convince my mate to quit whinging and get the rtech remap. He will do at sometime around Christmas, I'll pop along with him in my car if I have money to spare, if not I'll jump in his car. I'll see you nevertheless :afro:
-
Cheers m8!! Hope to see you soonish then.
