As long as you don't have the CC set to recirculate, then when you turn it off there will still be a trickle of air through the vents when you are driving, as air is forced through the HVAC unit.

If it bothers you, hit the recirc button and direct the airflow to your feet before you switch of the CC.

+1. TBH I've had this happen on other cars, so not a surprise for me.

Forward motion of the car will still force air through the vents.

What specifically was wrong with the boots?

You really don't wanna be using the recirc for anything more than very brief periods.  You can end up getting light-headed due to reducing oxygen content.

Me thinks they 'split' it for you!  CV boots should NEVER split that early!

my cv boot split at 34k

You saw it with your own eyes? :undecided:  And you also saw the tel-tale traces of 'further evidence' to support a split CV joint boot?

It's amazing how many cars fail MOT's for split CV boots.

If the garage is short of work it is so easy for them to 'accidentally' catch them with a screwdriver during the test, especially as they get older because they can get weaker.

It's a nice little job for them because the parts cost buttons but they can usually sting you for an hours labour, in which case most people will pay this because it's "only a hundred quid or so" to get the car through it's MOT on the same day and save the hassle of going back.

It is a point that was raised before but having your MOT done by a place which makes it profit from repairing cars is not a good idea. You are better off taking it to a council-run testing station that does not do any repairs.

Jay, I hear exactly what you are saying.

But what I'm trying to establish from Kane, was weather there was any evidence of the black moly grease being flung from the split gaitor?  It creates a very noticeable pattern, and isn't easy to artificially recreate.

by that you mean grease running from the inside of the alloy out??, yes and it was motd when i bought it so i dont think they would rob them selves

I noticed some sort of oil on the inside of my drivers side alloy wheel and asked for my specialist to look at it at the service in april.  They said it was an advisory on the mot, not fail but I wanted it changing.  Was a cheap fix anyway.

TT, what do these parts do??

CV joints need a special type of grease, and it is a very dark anthracite gray - to black colour.  Completely unlike normal bearing grease which tends to be yellowy/amber.

What parts?

Cv joints?

Cv joints?

They allow the transmission of torque at a constant velocity (ie, constant speed, unlike the fast-slow speeds of Hardy Spicer joints) through a driven shaft whilst allowing an articulated angle of transmission!  :nerd:

Basically, they allow a driven wheel to move indpendently of the drivetrain final drive unit - so up and down movements of the suspension, and on front wheel drive cars, allow driven wheels to steer.

Any good?
