I know this has been covered before but quite a few of you have your mk6 GTI now and maybe have some new comments.
What fuel are you using and have you noticed any difference between 95 and 98/99 RON?
-
95 here
-
I have only been using 95ron here in the Netherlands... actually I have yet to see anything above 95 here... I use Shell exclusively...
-
I use 95 ron but that is only because none of the 2 garages where I live sells anything else. But the car seems fine on it, that is when I am able to drive it!!
-
I've tried both 95 and 98, but TBH I can't say I've noticed any difference in terms of power gain/loss. However, for some strange reason, I noticed yesterday that my average fuel consumption seems to have suddenly dropped from about 8 to 7 litres/100km (35 to 40 mpg). I have done 1800km, or about 1100 miles

Was this drop in consumption due to a change in fuel type?
-
just sticking with 95, that's what it says on the cap so that's what i'm gonna use. use to use 98 and 95 on my mk 5 and never noticed the difference in either power or consumption so not bothering with the mk 6 - as it is petrol is 108p at the mo so i'm not paying super prices!!
-
I use 95 ron as well mostly because of the reasons Matchboy stated but also because I read that it has ben designed to run on 95ron. Not sure where that came from, might even have been someone on here.
-
Yeah, it was TT that explained that the new 2.0T engine has been improved and can now run at optimum levels on just 95 stuff (unlike the MK5s 2.0T engine).
Filled up Sunday night with V-Power . . . . 114.9 :( :( :( :(

Not as far as I am aware. It was more as if the computer suddenly decided that the engine was run in and decided it could use less fuel. I had a similar experience on a new car a couple of years ago, but I can't remember which one it was (I change cars a lot)
-
I've experienced the same thing over the last week. Happened to me at 2000 miles and I'm suddenly getting considerably better mpg but driving harder. Can't complain though
-
how long did it take your engine to loosen up DL? i put my foot down in 4th gear last night and it certainly didn't pull as quick as i would have liked!
-
Same thing happened to us, a couple of weeks after we bought it we got up to 1000 miles so started to increase the revs and for about a week or so it almost seemed underwhelming under accerlation. It certainly didn't feel as fast as the MK5 it replaced especially in the higher gears 4th and 5th. Can't really explain it in words as it would take an age to write it all down but both my wife and I kept saying it felt too smooth and not punchy enough. When we got up to 1500 miles I had really started to use the engine more and I would say taking it out for a real good thrashing at around 2000 miles has changed the engine. From 2000 miles onwards it has really improved both performance and consumption. Now up to 3000 miles and is really how I thought it should feel. All this is of course subjective and can be a lot do with the initial excitement of getting the new car then that dies down then you learn how to get the best from the engine, for sure though the MPG is much better now than when it was new and it is being driven harder.
Hopefully by the time you hit the 1000-1500 mile mark things will start improving.

excellent stuff, cheers mate. makes me feel a lot better. i knew that was probably the case but good to hear someone has had the same experience! i went to overtake someone yesterday, dropped down to 4th for some extra punch....and not a lot happened lol - or not as much as i'm used to! can't wait for it to loosen up i have to say!! although no fun for me today in it as the missus has my car - but then again i have her a4 so did have some fun on the way to work this morning as that's quicker than the gti
-
I've got the opposite problem, the GTi is the wifes and although my Saab is a fast Aero version it's know where near as much fun
When I nick the GTi i get ear ache from her.

-

it is  diesels are boring

I have only been using super and have an average of about 35mpg overall... but what shocked me the most (and believe me this was a hugh shock!!) I just drove from Leeds to Edinburgh and back and still have 70miles of fuel left!
That would equate to 470miles from a full tank. This going to totally mess up my routine of filling up once a week

You're just going to have to radge you're car about to lower the MPG and keep that timetable!
-
that is excellent consumption. still running the car in then?!
-
Yep.. still running in. Although another long distance trip should fix that this weekend
problem was that along single a-roads and 3 old people driving at 40mph on NSL roads its almost impossible to find overtaking space.. and when you do there is always a tractor 2 miles down the road.. and then guess who ends up back behind you again??? yes the old folks, and you can almost see them saying "going faster doesnt get you anywhere quicker" through your rear view

Had a similar thing happen in my mk5, just happened overnight. Better response and mpg.
Must be an engine management thing. Don't remember it being a particular milelage (1k, 1.5k or 2k), maybe it's set for km?

+1 lol, and you have to pretend there's something really important to fiddle with on the centre console, so that you can avoid looking at them in your rear view mirror

Glad im not the only one
Although I do have to confess to giving them a taste of their own medicine if I catch them swearing/arm waving at me. :lipsrsealed:
-
of course, if they're swearing at you its rude not to return the favour!!
