hello i have recently got a mk 3 1.4 match.
I am planning to stick a vr6 lump in but want to do some simple mods to the exterior and interior
can anyone help me out?
Cheers

First off you'll need one of these (http://www.sillyjokes.co.uk/dress-up/acc/hats/occu/marine.html).
Subtle, hmm.
Headlights, smoke/tint yours, or buy GTi lights and do them, or there are always Hella Twin Headlights.
Rear lights, GTI/VR6 smoked lights
Lower.
What sort of thing do you want? Smoked look? Crystal ((http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v145/madamski/smilies/gheyfight.gif)) or what?
-
you no be as well just buying a vr6 as opposed to the cost of conversion?
-
i've got smoked rears and the car is light green so smoked affect would look nice i think the colour code is ld6t i my mate has got a vr6 lump in his shed (on ice if you know what i mean)
gonna fit that later in the year winter time as its a good time so its ready for sring and the chasis and body on this is sweet.

Your best bet is to get a complete doner car, everything needs changing really.
-
You'll need a lot more than just the engine as Wayne says Bud.
Loom, ECU, Brakes, suspension are to name a few.
Then you will need the engineers report before you can get insurance which will be more expensive than a standard VR.
Would be a better option to get a standard VR6
-
well donor it is just for the running gear
what cosmetic mods are best?
-
depends what look your trying to achieve, if its euro keep it oem+ with some fresh (green) wheels and a hefty slam.

You will need to change everything for the VR6.
All of the running gear, sub frames, driveshafts, hubs, brakes, engine, fuel pump, you will have no abs
You would essentially need to buy a VR6, and de shell it onto your car.
Just buy a VR6.
Its only worth upgrading engines if you have a good gti/16v. As then you are only talking a few bolts and a days work. Not a years work.
Sorry...
-
Probably a 17/18 year old hoping to drop a VR6 engine into his car, not tell the insurance company, and try and get away with it.
Do it properly. Buy a VR6. Insure it as a VR6.
-
agree with everyone else here. Your starting with the wrong car for a conversion. If you really want to do it get a 16v and start from there.

I dont want to just buy a vr6 or gti as i like to build from scratch
i am in the forces and posted in germany so parts a penny's
just wanted to find out slight tweaks before the transplant.
Thought this was a place to ask the questions not to be spoken of as though i was a spotty teen trying to fidle insurance companies especialy when i have a 2 year old and another on the way.
cheers for the good info from others though

That's fair enough then dude. Although I still think you're starting off with the wrong base car. My nan had a Mk3 Golf 1.4 match and it was THE most basic model Golf I think they ever made, lol!

Boooom...told you's lol
I suggest mate, that you only do the basics to it...Air filter, exhaust, give it a proper service drop it a little add some of your own little touches then sell it...get ya self a GTi (preferably a 16valver) then have some fun do some bigger mods to it...just my opinion mate, but do what ever you wanna do with it
-
if you want to build from scratch i would still start with a vr6 then put the 2.9 in and super charger it at least you wont have to swap every thing and i do mean every thing and you will end up with a beast of a vr for probably the same price as doing your 1.4 up just a thought espically since vr6 's are pretty cheap at the moment
-
They are but just like xr2's,xr3's,gti's ect they are all ragged silly and high miler's
so does seem best to get a donner and rebuild the engine
i will look out for a decent donnor cheers peep,s
-
But you say that you have a vr6 in your shed so it dont matter if its high milage. By the way I like kebabs too.
