hmmmm... well the weekend is almost over...and I have no idea where time went. heh heh heh
I took the car for a long drive on the highway today and I must say it was superb driving although it was raining quite heavily. The car performed very well. It sounded as it should be. I thought it was rather loud and not muted as most reviewers had said.
Handling with the Continental tyres were also great, no loss of control and the car felt planted all the way.
Since this is the first time I am owning a VW GTI and driving it for more than an hour, I realised the clutch is very light and easy going when changing the gears. I am still amazed that the onboard computer 'suggests' that I change to the 6th gear when going only 60km/h.
Travelled 361 km/h oops, frogti thanks for pointing this out already and mileage was approximately 8.2 litres/100km... Thats quite good I think.
And the RNS310 is nice, with touchscreen and in colour. Plays music from the iPod and correctly labels all my music. I am indeed a happy customer. :)
-
We need pix :)
BTW, I didn't know you were allowed to drive at 361 km/h in Holland ;)
-
Hi, was just wondering whether its normal to hear the body of the GTI creak when going up uneven surfaces. Here in the Netherlands, there are raised roads especially when you need to cross bicycle lanes at junctions. So when I go over it, the door on my side seems to creak a little.
I was using the premium bluetooth kit and it works great with my Nokia E75. I can actually read sms on the onboard computer screen. The integrated navigation system on the RNS 310 is also great. Not as good as a TomTom but is alright for a basic system.
I will post some pics once the weather is sunny enough. Hmmm its sunny at the moment... I will go park it in the sunlight... will post some later today then, I hope. ;)

With regard to the creaks.. I had a simialr problem on the R when I first got it, so took it back to the dealers. i was told it was a combination of 2 things..
1. The chassi will have some flex in it (they all do) so as it settles down the creaks will lessen.
2. The rubber on the doors has a habit of rubbing very slightly and so also causes weird noises around the cabin. This can be fixed by using a spray on lubricant on the seals. I know VW have one for use on the Eos's as they tend to flex a little more
-
R32UK, thanks for the advice and information. Will check with my dealer but will have to wait till 11 August as he is on summer break. Am taking the car out now for some photo shoot for the forum, ho ho ho. Its not as clean as I would like it to be but since the sun is out... need to capitalise on that...

I listened and you are right R32UK... the sound seems to be the rubbers rubbing against each other, now that you mentioned it. So how long will one need to wait before the body frame sets? Or I should just get the lubricant from VW? hmmmm all this rubber and lubricant talk does suggest something else altogether... ha ha ha
-
hmmm my first gen iPod Shuffle works fine with the USB connector but when I tried to fix my iPhone to the same USB connector, nothing happens... no reaction whatsoever... will go to VW to get the iPhone connector tomorrow then... I wonder how much it will cost here... in the Netherlands...
-
neat colour and some nice pics :) not quite silver, not quite grey... pretty cool!!
over here the alloys are called monza shadows
also you should be able to get the ipod cable for free if you ask nicely :)

Those are the first decent pix I've seen of a United Grey GTI and I must say it looks very good. I reckon it's going to be one of the rarest colours around, along with Shadow Blue. Congrats.
PS. I'm a little disappointed that you didn't really drive at 361kph - the GTI isn't as fast as I thought ;)
-
I had problems with my iPhone and my new Mk6 VW told me it will nto work on the USB or with the iPhone connector. I purchased from Apple a connector from the iPhone earphone socket to the socket on the front of the arm rest. Works fine that way. But iPhone will not charge obviusly, need the lighter connection for that

I have had the rubber squeek/creak noise its deceptive from were its coming from  VW just use a silicone based spray. I used Autoglyms rubber care on cars that have suffered this in the past and it cured them all.

Brian, my iphone 3GS connects, plays and charges perfectly with the VW supplied ipod connector.

If I had driven 361 km/h, the creaks on the doors will be the last thing on my mind... he he he And thats prolly what caused the fingernail marks on the steering wheel. ;)

hmmmm In my neighbourhood, there's 3 Golf MK VIs and all are United Greys... The Dutch sure loves the grey... On another matter, as an interesting trivia, I was informed that in the Netherlands 85% of the GTI orders are for the manual.

It seems that no-one knows anything yet about the H15 but they are the DRL and main beam bulb and on main beam they are whitey blue, they're only yellow on DRL's. I changed my sidelight bulbs and dipped beam bulbs to Philips Blue Vision and they look great. I'm driving around in daytime with the sidelights on instead of the DRL's, again, big improvement.
-
Hi Gossa, thanks for your suggestion. I read it earlier but since it was quite some time now, I was just wondering whether there is any developments. I will go look for the Philips Blue Vision and change the sidelamps... and post pics... once I am done...

The headlamp H7's are a doddle to fit but the sidelights are a bugger to get out! I'll see if I can get some pics of mine too.
-
Hmmmmm, Gossa if you notice in my pictures, the headlamps are on but dont you think its still a lot yellow?

Hmmmmm, Gossa if you notice in my pictures, the headlamps are on but dont you think its still a lot yellow?
They are the standard bulbs? Yes, quite yellow but then how would VW be able to charge the Xenon price if they fitted a nice white bulb?

he he he was refering to your earlier comment that the H15's main beam being whiter than the DRLs...

Ah, yes they do, mmmm.....guess we'll have to wait until someone does a decent aftermarket bulb in H15. You can have the DRL's switched off but a tuner told me once they are off they cannot be reactivated. Strange.

It was a nice weekend (last weekend) and I decided to wash the car... when I found a small paint defect on the rear spoiler. It appears to be under the claer coating. So I brought it to the dealer and they agree it needs to be done but it needs approval from VW Germany... Its nothing major so I dont mind waiting 2 weeks to get the approval.
My point here is that when you do collect your car, please take time to look it over. I am surprised mine had some minor exterior and interior damages... but I am alright with them since they are very small but everybody is different. I used to be fussy but as I get older I am less anal... :nerd:

Oh, have any of you had problems with the vehicle diagnosis of all the external lighting of the car. Apparently when I operated the remote to open the car, at least 3 times as I was talking to a friend and wanted my son to enter the car but he not wantin g to enter the car, and then when I subsequently tried to start the car, the yellow lamp warning came on, and then the vehicle diagnostics listed 12 issues for me to check. Even the signal indicator blinked faster... but everything seemed ok...
When I got back, I switched the car off and waited for 5 mins... Upon restart, the warning lamps came on again... but when I locked and reopen the car and switched it on again, all is well again... something to do with the remote opening and closing? And comments are welcomed!

TT, I already spoke to them, they hadn't even heard of the H15 and didn't seem to think anyything would be coming down the pipe anytime soon unless lots more companies starting fitting them. Considering DRL's will be the norm, maybe that will happen?
You're right though, great company, bought some Blue Visions from them, damn, didn't know about the forum discount, is there a code if you buy online?

OK, if they don't know about them at the mo, it won't be long. But remember, PowerBulbs only deal with top quality OEM spec bulb suppliers, and not some cheap crap from the far east.
How about e-mailing Osram, Philips and GE?

Hi, been more than 6 weeks, and I have put the VW rubber juice on the seals and the car still makes the rubbery noises when I go up an uneven surface. Should I still wait a little longer till the car settles down? Anybody having the same issues with their spanking new cars?
HM
-
Mine just plainly rattles :)
I got one source - the rubber under the bottle opener was not locked in place. Another source seems to be the electic window control module on the drivers door.
-
I will check the rubber bit in the centre console too, just in case... I must admit I am getting used to the rubber noises actually, that is, until I drive the BMW again... ha ha ha The BMW is really quiet... But thats the whole point I guess of me getting a GTI, wanna be in a sports wannabe car... he he he so cabin noise is expected!!
Anyone else having noises in their cabin?

TT, I ordered my bulbs from them but am still waiting for the shipment. Apparently the Dutch postal service returned the shipment for no rhyme or reason... so hopefully I will be getting them soon...
For information, I ordered the following:
Philips X-Treme Power H7 - GBP27.85 x 1 and got
FREE Philips Blue Vision W5W

Not on the GTI, but i did on the R. Found it got a little worse with warm to cold overnight weather, so as temperatures start to cool it should settle down. Its nothing to worry about
-
Good stuff! Atleast we know whats caused it now. Usually settles down over a few weeks as the rest of the car adjusts to the slight flex. i would get the lube from VW and apply it as and when its required
in the arse if you're getting it from the stealers.

Hmmmm . . . did your Dutch postie start his shift after a session in Willy Wortels (or whatever its name is)?
NL is in the EU, so there are no trade restrictions between member states - unless someone thought that 'PowerBulbs' is sommat that is going to annhialate the Dutch tulip industry! :lipsrsealed:

Yo Ho,
I drove my car today and realised the rubbery noises have reduced somewhat. Or I am getting deaf... I guess the VW lube works!!! I put it on Sunday and presto Tuesday the noise is almost gone...
Yaaaay, the car is finally 'quiet'!

I used the VW Rubber Care Stick 75 ml Part No: 00V 096 310 A
I applied evenly on the rubber seals and waited 2-3 days before it was effective. Now the rubbery sounds are somewhat muted. Its quite quiet now.

Is that for free by the dealer?

Nope, I had to order it from my friend in Germany which cost Euro4.50. My dealer had a different silicone alternative spray can which didnt work. The stick looks like a shoe polish applicator with sponge on top.

To bad, just had contact with my dealer, they can not get it anymore........

Perhaps if I meet my German friend again in the next few weeks, I can get her to get another bottle for you. Are you having the same rubbery noises?

he he he Yes, the bulbs are indeed brighter! And has a further reach than the original bulbs. I am also pleased with the looks and how it enhances the car at night. Thank you for your compliment...

Do it! once you drove a car with Xenon at night, you will never come back to standard lights, PLUS everyone will move aside if they see you coming on the motorway at night, it really meakes the car more "BADASS"

Code: PXTPH7, pack comes with 2 bulbs

Thanks

Hi Golf5ti,
How come you are not pleased with your purchase from powerbulbs? IMHO, the new bulbs provide better vision at night. Its whiter than the originals and light up a bigger area as well. I would have loved if it had a little more blue tint but those bulbs are illegal in Europe... So the ones I got is the best I can do for it to be legal...
HM
-
Hey,
i don't see much difference with the "old" standard bulbs......
i thought they would be whiter, and look more like a xenon atmosphere would seem...
so, next thing are the LED lights, vd Udenhout will store them with 25% discount on his internet shop.
as a customer of Auto Mondt i'm going to ask how mucht they cost by them, if its 600 euro inculding adapters to make them fit/play then they will be 450 euro with discount, i will definitely buy them.
-
Looks lovely!

Hi
I'm a newbie here!
Question for howlingmoon:
Did you manage to buy any cable for connecting the iPhone to the RNS310? And if yes, can you post pictures and partnumber of such a cable?
I'm stuck with this, if I connect a pendrive to the USB I can play the music but my iPhone is totally ignored...
-
If you have the MDI interface unit i would expect the cables would be the same as other headunits used.
IPOD cable 000 051 446 C
USB cable 000 051 446 B
Mini USB cable 000 051 446 A
Jack plug cable 000 051 446 D
-
plus the ipod cable should be free from your dealer. there was a change in policy not too long ago such that it went from being a 15 quid option (that most people haggled for free) to being part of standard spec.
tho... RNS310? Mk6 GTI has RNS510 and RCD310, but not the RNS310?!
-
^ Thats what made me think he maybe overseas as theres other options over there.
May i ask do you know when it was £15 in the UK? :undecided: From what i remember from reading the collection of my brouchers since the mk6 launch it has been standard but 'dealer parts department' supplied at PDI when the MDI was fitted. Most dealer forgot to supply it or made people pay for it.
-
This was back in Jul/ Aug 2009. I believe (from others on this forum) that since then dealers have been told to give away the ipod cables for free.
