No serious...

Oh no

16v on ITB...
or a G-ladder
-
vr6... then you have the turbo option later down the line. Plenty of kits around, unlike for the abf.
-
VRT money you may as well go 20vT for the same power results. What do you want from your car?
-
you can get 400bhp from a vr6 turbo for half the money it would take to get from a 1.8T
-
I think you will be able to pick up a vr6 lump cheaper.

They have come down in price then, I thought the VR conversion was something like £6k! I am also on the understanding that the VR's are stronger with the bigger powergains too and less likely to go pop. Anyone remember that RichGits 20v? He was running seriously high BHP and had all sorts of issues. Again it all goes down to what do you want from your car? All that power is wasted on the streets..................................................

designadubs put his engine in.. are you surprised :lipsrsealed:
anyway, the turbo suggestion was a 'much much later on' thing.. i don't want to be on the same roads as mikey in a 400bhp VR

16v on ITB...
+1 just throw money at an abf.
or VRT

 fair dooooooooss! My all time favorite garage!

VR6

8v - apparently the low bhp and torque make it a better car

Really
I don't think I ever said an 8v was better than a 16v, it is however smoother to drive, but 16v's are great if you want to drive everywhere at 4000rpm plus.
-
VRT for the sheer sound

2.6 Audi Lump just to be different, proper V6 :lipsrsealed:
-
That won't fit in a golf, and the 2.6 is only 150bhp

Only yanking your chain
Tickover set at 4000rpm on my 16v
As I've said before the choice depends on your driving needs and style. It all depends on what you use your car for, daily commute, weekend fun transport, tracking, racing, or taking your mum down the shops.
Modifying cars can become addictive as Mikester is finding out, you can either go for the best possible to be better than everyone else, the best you can afford, or the sensible option and spend your money on sex drugs and rock and roll (or hip hop or whatever you youngsters listen to now!!)
If everyone was sensible and the same it would make for a boring world and there would be a lot less threads on this subject.
Mikester go with your heart buy and fit the engine you think will make you happy - spend a little more if it will save you doing it twice, don't spend out on a compromise, if you want the R32 go for it. If you fit a 16v or VR6 will you then regret not fitting the R32. Life is too short for regrets.
Good luck with your choice.

Yeah but the 8v is better. Its got more torque than a 16v.
8v and vr6 are the best mk3 engines
-
Go crazy either a VRT or a BAM 1.8T????
-
No crazy is a R32, which is what I think he should do.
-
Crazy is chopping and extending the front and slapping an RS4 engine in there
-
I think with all of the research i have been doing, i might make a "Mk3 conversion FAQ" thread... Hmmmm.....
