Car's going in the bodyshop on monday! &
Getting the ed30 front valance painted and fitted with satin black lower centre section, skirts smoothed and colour coded, rear bumper colour coded with exhaust recess painted in satin black, gonna try and waggle in the front grill to be painted satin black aswell. Thats all >
Also getting the arch bubble sorted and the bonnet resprayed to eliminate stone chips , this is all >
Going into BMW bodyshop so should get a beemer to drive around in all week  although I did spot a few corsa's so may end up with one of those
Over a grand though
Aiming for something like this:

Nice one Sambo
Should look a treat when finished. Those wheels on the pic you posted NEED to be on your car
-
Yer love the style, not to convinced on red though
I'll be skint for a while now though so the 17's will have to stay on for at least a few months :undecided: until i can russle up some cash for wheels, then it's remap time.
Sam
-
............... for everything else theres mastercard!
 no more credit in my name lol, i refuse
-
I learned the hard way how to use credit cards when I maxxed one out at 18. Now I know if it's on there it needs paying ASAP! Thats why the wheels will have to wait, gotta pay off the bodywork first!
Sam
-
red wheels ftw
be brave trust me
-
Car went in this morning, got a 1.0 corsa to potter about in  my transit van is slow, this is in a league of it's own, honestly think it would be quicker to walk
-
-
lol i bet that's a bit of a step down :) 1.0 corsa
-
Any news yet Sam?

Any news yet Sam?
last i heard he said it wouldn't be ready until Monday but he's hopeful it will be ready for Saturday for Castle Combe
-
Castle coombe is a definate no no  spoke to the neighbour of mine who's spraying it and he said it will be painted on friday, then left all weekend to harden and finished on monday ready for collection.
Corsa is actually a 1.2  slow as fook!
Think my grill is being painted sating black too, also both complete sides have been sprayed !!! Think he's going to do my front VW badge matt black too! and my GPS aerial is being colour coded!!
All in all think it's not a bad price now considering all the extras, and using BMW paint and clear coat which is supposed to be excellant, just gotta wait a few more days, obviously piccies will be added as soon as I collect
Sam
-
Any news?
-
Yeah you should have it by now? :D
-
Tomorrow now! :embarassed:
-
ahhhhhh
Howcome?
-
No idea, just taken longer than expected I suppose, got a few extras done FOC too which is cool. Looking forward to seeing it tomorrow now!
-
lol yeah it'll be a nice day
-
i got most of my car done for the price you are paying for those bits! lol
-
It isn't far off most the car! Both sides bar the drivers door, both wings, bonnet & bumpers. So apart from the drivers door roof and tailgate it's all painted. Plus courtesy car and full machine polish.
I know I could have got it cheaper, but this is a BMW approved bodyshop, using BMW paint and a top workshop with all the gear. After my mk4 I wanted to know it was going to be a pukka job, let's just hope it is!! :undecided:
And before i haggled the price it was £1450 and that was still with 15% discount!
Sam
-
Sorry mate.
I read it as the splitter grille and bonnet!
Dont know how i come to that conclusion. lol.
Longer the car is left in primer before paint, the better the finish mate. And the longer it is left to rest the better. Dont just rush it! And be careful when you get it back with how u wash it, and products etc.
You will become anal paint man. I did. lol
-
you got it back yet Sam??
-
take a guess . . . . .
-
take a guess . . . . .
how rude
this best be a fooking pukka job mate!! I'd be absolutely jumping if its less than perfect!
-
It will be worth the wait!! Tornado Red can't be rushed!!!
-
Well when I went in this afternoon after not recieving a phone call I presumed it would not be ready. They said they were giving it a clean basically, went to check to see if it was ready but then told me it wouldn't be ready until 5pm. I couldn't be bothered to wait around for an hour so just buggered off and said i'll try and pick it up tomorrow, orr failing that it'll have to be thursday as the misses is using the courtesy turd to get to and from work so may not make it down in time tomorrow
Got my suspicious head on though wondering if something has happened which needed attention? :undecided:
Good thing's come to those who wait I guess!
Sam
-
Just had 'the phone call' your car is ready for collection sir.

Had to drop it off to the misses to get home in. She should be back within an hour so some soggy (it's hammering it down here) photo's should be up within an hour.
From what i've seen, i'm well pleased  they took it back into the workshop when I arrived and dried it off so I could inspect it which I thought was good. Also it's 3 years warranty on the work they've done which is good news
Sam
-
Ok piccies sorry there rubbish but it's hammering down here and spent most of the time wiping rain off the lense :undecided:

I'm pleased with it! :smug: quality of work looks spot on! Look forward to a dry day when I can wax it up and get some better shot's. Wheel's are letting it down now, but once i've paid off this work they will be changed along with r32 rear lights. Still need to decide what to do with the rear badge, don't think i'd like an all black one :undecided:
Comment's welcome good or bad :nerd:
Cheers, Sam :afro:
-
Fantastic work there
Might be worth doing some before and after shots
I'm looking at doing some bits to mine (got to resist though! Only had the car 2 months)
Dan
-
Looks a good job Sam!! I like the back bumper, that's how they should of been from the factory!! For some reason I thought you have a 5 door??!!
Look forward to seeing some dry shots
-
I've only had this car for 5 weeks!
Funny you should say that mate, i've just been playing with the camera now it's dried up a bit. My old flaking garage door isn't much of a backdrop but if you can look past my 'builders yard' garden i'll edit them and post them up in a minute.
Sam :afro:
-
that does look like a pukka job Sam - at least it was worth the wait
-
A few more pic's. Had a good nose around now it's mostly dry and it's all spot on, definatly worth the wait! (and price )
Even the misses agree's it need's new wheels now. . . . result :afro:

Looking good mate. Looks like a great colour match which is really difficult on red cars
-
Looks spot on Sam, well worth the money
-
Looks really good mate. Comment above about the rear bumper looking the way it should do is spot on!
You must be very pleased. Roll on new alloy time hey!!!!!
Can't remember from earlier in the thread, has the gloss black on your grill been done in a matt finish or is just the rain?
Think I'm going to get my rear bumper done after seeing yours. Just need a good bodyshop in the northwest to do it.
-
Yep satin black along with the bumper lower section which was smoothed first and ed30 front valance lower section. Thinking about getting the mirror covers done the same too :undecided:
Cheers for the comments
Sam
-
The satin looks great, not something I think I've seen before.
Perfect with some satin black BBS CH's
-
Loving is Sam, good work chap.
-
Nice job Sam, yours is looking great. I like your style and agree, darkened alloys but not Black alloys, dark anthracite or Boron like mine will go a good match to the new mods on yours. Agree Ed30/R32 rear clusters next up imo:smiley:

Keep up the good work.
-
Haha, looks like i'm heading down the same path as you here phil mcavity! seeing your's has helped me decide the mirror covers should also be satin! Are they painted, or the OEM covers?
Also is that a satin rear badge I see on the last piccy, don't suppose you have a full shot if it is?
Looks great mate :afro:
Cheers, Sam
-
Sam that looks great, just need the new rims now  .
-
Looks proper smart mate!

It is Carbon Fibre wrap sambo. Heres a close up of what shes wrapped in. Have done some of the inside of the car, couldnt help it

The GTi badge on the boot was a red GTi badge, painted black to create the effect. Also done the same with the Edition30 badge too.
-
Nice, I also wanted it carbon wrapped eventually which is why I got the rear smoothed and painted, problem is there are no reputable 'wrappers' around my way so may never happen. Did you use chameleon?
Look's great :afro:
Depending where I end up with the mk5 I may change the rear for R32 later on with a milltek to suit, but i'm also considering keeping the mk5 fairly standard and building a mk2 track day car :undecided:
Sam
-
Racoon in hampshire, chameleon offer the same wrap. Highly reccomend having it on the car except the wing mirrors as have had some issues with the fabric's shinking characteristic's when overstretched. But is fine on all smooth flat surfaces.

They used my car to demo in the pic in this link.
-
How much for all what you had done and how long did it take if you don't mind me asking? From what I can tell, you have the wing mirrors, b pillars, grill, front and rear bumpers and interior done?
Cheers, Sam

All in cost me just shy of £300. The badge's(VW ones)+ insides where done by myself from an off cut they gave me for being such a great Customer
-
Good price, less than I was expecting  is it done in a day or does the process take a while?
Cheers, Sam

It would take to do all that about 4 hours all in at a guess. Mine was the 1st they did, so they took there time.
I went back 2 weeks later to have the Front plate mask, door pillers and the wing mirrors re-done.
-
Phil, I love your MK5.
That is all. I got my carbon front grille done like yours but seeing the rest of yours is just awesome, I need MORE carbon :(
-
You can never have "too much" carbon.
Rule No8 in the modders top ten
-
Phil, I love your MK5.
Cheers Alan, for relatively low cost , i think its a great product, and without going too over the top, subtle touches look great.
I was at castle coombe last weekend, and someone had wrappped their doorhandles in it, and it look sh!te!.
