Title: considering the vento front end....
Post by: robz on 14 July 2009, 08:24
hi all...
ok, i know this has been up a few times... i have just spent an hour or so reading up on the search etc... but just want to clear a couple of quieries up:)

after i crashed the golf, smashing the best aspect of the car, the front, i now hate it, lol!
i hate the standard lights and im not getting far in fixing the old hella quad that is in a thousand peices...
so i had the bright idea of doing a vento front end, lol.
the reason is i prefer the square head light.
so my question is...
do i need the slam panel and bumper iron off the vento, or do i just need the lights, bumper(if i want the chunky one), bonnet, and the grill??
or does the slam panel and bumper iron need to be vento,
its just from what i have read there seems to be some contadiction!!lol
any help greatfully appreciated!! :)

also, has anyone got a pic of one in purple so i can see if its derfo what i want, maybe a photoshop request, lol!!

Lights, bonnet and grill are all you need plus the bumper if you want to change it.

Only other thing to watch out for is that early Golf / Vento headlamps had different plugs to the later cars so try to find some the same year as your car or you can make adaptor looms.

Post by: robz on 14 July 2009, 08:46
ok, cheers for that m8!
will prob do this now its only a few easy jobs, not ripping the whole thing apart again!
we had to chop the hella quad plugs off to fit some standard ones back on, so will have to see what i can find, lol!
classifieds here i come!!
cheers for that!!

Title: Re: considering the vento front end....
Post by: ace on 14 July 2009, 09:00
yeah as wayne said u only really need the lights, grille and bonnet.

im also thinking of doing this or then getting my front bumper fully smoothed, just need to figure out where to relocate my indicators to if i do smooth the front.
Title: Re: considering the vento front end....
Post by: robz on 14 July 2009, 09:05
yeah, its a tempting one, but looking at what people want for the bits im not sure i can justify it yet!!
think it would suit my golf too!!
that kind of low slung smooth rally look!
theres one set of lights grill and bonnet on here for 150 notes
i got a whole front end for that, lol.
they dont seem to be around much either :(

there just doesnt seem to be that many pics of them either...

Vento fronts are cool but a bit played out now. I wanna put the standard Golf front back on my car but can't afford some GTI headlights.

i hope people arent thinking im folowing the crowd by doing this:(
just wanted a change cos i dont like the front end of a standard mk3

joe yours is sweet,
i would swap ya my gti lights if ya fancy.... should i decide to go ahead!!
not sure if you would be interested or not...

i think with the eye brow on there it would set it if nice!!

Title: Re: considering the vento front end....
Post by: VR6-Joe on 14 July 2009, 09:53
I'm afraid if the Vento front comes off then it'll either be going into storage or it will be passed on to my dad.

The 'early' grill alone is worth 50 quid, local scrappy charges 50 quid for a bonnet, and the headlights must be worth 20 each.

It's becoming a common mod at the moment, so if they accidentally smash their cars up, there's going to be less Vento fronts about, which means they'll be worth more money in the future

Post by: robz on 14 July 2009, 10:06
no worries mate, sounds like ya have your head screwed on with that idea, lol!

thought id try ;)

might be getting my hands on a bonnet for cheap, see how it goes...
will the vento bonnet close over the gti head lights?

just in thinking if i dont get the lights at the right price in time!! :)

/quote]

mate i wouldn't say your following the crowd, i think if it looks good others will no doubt do the same, was the same with mk2's with the jetta fronts and mk4's with bora front ends
Title: Re: considering the vento front end....
Post by: VR6-Joe on 14 July 2009, 10:34
Yeah the Vento bonnet should close with Golf headlights.. You'll just be left with a weird gap lol!
Title: Re: considering the vento front end....
Post by: robz on 14 July 2009, 10:41
lol, some would say one of a kind

well he's offered me the bonnet for 25 notes, needs a dent knocking out and filling priming and painting!

how much do ya recon that will cost to have done?

think i'll offer 20!
Title: Re: considering the vento front end....
Post by: VR6-Joe on 14 July 2009, 10:53
Do it yourself, I would

Tub of filler - fiver
Couple of cans of primer from Halfords - 14 quid

Then either get it sprayed by a bodyshop or have a crack at it yourself like I plan to
Title: Re: considering the vento front end....
Post by: robz on 14 July 2009, 11:01
might do that actually,
never done this kind of stuff!!
i could rub it, fill it, prime it, then just get it sprayed i supppose!!

it can only go so far wrong hey, lol,
cheers m8

and i cant afford a new hella quad.
plus ive not seen any round where i live, so it would be diffrent round here, lol

i just like it for some reason!!
i feel isolated, lol

i liked my car before, but now the quads are no longer i want a change!!

and if i could afford to have the hellas back, id go on and buy a vtec classic mini for what its worth, just for a cheapish fix and a bit of difference i think its nice!!
sorry for rant but im not following any crowd as theres no crowd to follow where i live, lol, only sheep in the fields behind the house i suppose, lol. i dont think that will help my case :)

think ive only seen joes!

thanks all for the comments, gonna email this guy back and get this bonnet and get going it think!

then all i need to do is find out why it still wont run properly, lol!!
Title: Re: considering the vento front end....
Post by: Len on 14 July 2009, 20:48
Sorry but your front as it is now looks FAR better than the vento
Title: Re: considering the vento front end....
Post by: robz on 14 July 2009, 20:54
it doesnt look like that now though!
i had a crash and now its standard and got bits missing!!
dont get me wrong, i loved the front of the car before and had no plans to do anything to it, but im not paying at least 100 notes just for the lights, thats before the spraying, lol
it looks a mess at the minute and my own taste is really against the standard gti lights and front end.
plus the vento front reminds me of the corrado front, which i really liked as ive had a rado before!
Title: Re: considering the vento front end....

Its not another SHEEP joins the FLOCK.

As lets count the amount of mk3 golfs here, with standard front ends, rear ends, and generally no money spent on them, but owned by people who aspire and talk day in day out of these big modifications.

Then lets count the amount of cars on the forum with vento fronts?

Seems the FLOCK on here, is people who got a mk3 gti 8v, joined the club after googling the grille badge, and then chats all day long about cheapo coilovers, and dewipering the rear, as they can do them with the dinner money the wife allows them.

Title: Re: considering the vento front end....

To be fair I partly agree with Mike

I've not seen many modded Mk3 Golfs on here, most of them appear to be bog standard GTI 8v's

There's only a couple of Mk3's I know of with Vento front ends, everybody else seems too hooked on those Hella quad lamps (this is not a dig at anyone btw)

And all people seem to go on about are dewipering their tailgate, aero wiper conversions, or cheap crap coilovers that last about 6 months

In my opinion people aren't motivated enough to mod their cars. They'd rather sit on an internet forum talking about modding their cars, then a month later the work still hasn't been carried out.

What also pisses me off is people who can't use the search. Every week somebody asks what size grommet is needed to dewiper the tailgate, what the 'hottuning' coilovers are like, or what parts are needed for a Vento front end conversion. It's been asked loads of times so do a quick search and find your answer rather than posting yet another thread. Again, this is not a dig at anyone, I just feel people need to stop being so lazy!

Well Mikester as you have not been here long and are also not that observant I can assure you that there are or have been many vento fronts!

Dont try and be elite.

Fact of the matter is, if people ask for HELP, dont slate them with your opinions.

My OPINION is yuor car is a skip, and absolutly horrible. But you wouldnt like to hear that would you?

And if someone asked how to fit a gash bodykit, you would be in there telling them how.

But when it comes to something else that you dont have, you have 100 reasons to post bad things.

I like the Vento front ends, but dont think it would suit my car. I wouldnt however go about slagging it off saying it looks sh!t.

Yeah, but the point is, the guy wants help, and then len posts slaggin it off etc. If you read the thread from page one. Its not on at all. His opinion wasnt asked for. Simple as.

Im just tryin to stick up for the poor guy who got a whole load of abuse for wanting to do something he wants.

Not called for at all. It dont matter wether its a vento front, or any other mod is. The point remains he asked for help, not abuse and negativity.

Wasnt having a go mate, was having a dig a Len too.

At the end of the day, Len doesnt like the Vento front end, Mike doesnt like Len's bodykit. That should be the end of it? Each to their own and all that.

Personally I think that they way you have your car is awesome mike, and the wheels just set it off a treat!

If you want a change, go for a change mate! Its your car, and so what if everyone has Vento front ends? If noone put a vento front end on, everyone would have the Golf front ends?! So what difference does it make? Either way you could be called a sheep but do what you want to do mate, its your car :)

ooh, think ive missed quite a bit!! lol

thanks for all your help and all of your opinions!!
i think everyone is entitled to there own opinion and their own tastes!!
i did say in my op that i just wanted to discuss it with people that are familiar with the dub scene,
plus i did do the search for quite a while!! but some things were a bit contradictory in the various posts, so just wanted a little confirmation!

ive decided to do the vento front cos ive never seen one and like it, so why not, lol

to mike, i really like what you have done, len its not my taste but at least its something different that i can respect the work that has gone into it :)

i wanna do my own thing and may start a project thread, as i think i want an almost rally look to it, which it already kinda has.... so all the wheel arch covers and bumper blacks, and mud flaps are gonna stay, and the vento front with an eyebrow would just give it that finish!!

thanks again all of ya!!

I'm going for the textured front - im running fully textured bumpers at the moment which came with the car from the factory and imo it's going to look good with a vento front eng. Eventually I'm going to try and get a textured top'd vento front bumper to give it the bigger look

will get pics up next month once she's been sprayed

Build what you want. And dont listen to it being played out. Build what you like, and keeps you happy at the end of the day. Ive had lame ass played out comments all day long about my car recently, bothered. I love it.
