Title: Saturday trip to the Pod
Post by: Hurdy on 05 July 2009, 18:08
Decided to go to the Pod on Saturday to see what the old girl could do with the REVO stage 2+, DSG remap a la GIAC and the EVOM's intake.

Managed to get one run just about right on a very hot day (so the turbo was suffering a little!)

13.45 at 107 mph wasn't a bad result and the best ET so far.

All I need now is the Quaife fitting, engine mounts and some uber light alloys with Toyo R888's and it is 12's with a little luck

max wait between runs (apart from track clearups) was 10 minutes

people were having so many goes it kept going dead while they let the cars cool down

never seen it like that before!

rear seats, spare wheel, soundproofing, lightweight front seats, go on a diet, that silly sound system you got installed

depends, what sort of level do you want to go to (jonnyc style?) and do you want whatever you do to be reversible?

Spare wheel and the boot install get removed for the pod already

Some nice carbon front seats would be great, but after watching Top Gear and how the seats in the SLR Black edition nearly crippled Jezza, I'm having a bit of a rethink. Reverie do some gorgeous carbon bucket seats weighing 4.5kg with the mounts, but I'd never be able to drive it as I'd be laid up for months after each trip

Rear seats are possible as they only take 15 mins or so to take out

Even thinking about a lightweight battery (saves 10kg )

Debating new uber light alloys and sticky rubber.

The list just grows

I don't want to completely strip it, just take the fatty bits off whist leaving it easily reversible.

EG I would probably take off the rear slam panel (17kg), but then think for the next 6 months that someone is going to hit the back of my car and kill me

Get spare rims for the R888's as they're lethal on the road in standing water because you can't get them up to temperature. Also on something as heavey as MKV I doubt you'd getmore than 2K out of a front pair.

i reckon you should just put it back to standard, sell it, buy my R32 and put your bits on it then turbo it

Jonnyc has been running R888's on his car and has done trackdays, sprints and has put over 3k on them with plenty of grip left on the fronts

I know the R888's have issues in the wet, but I'd be using them on sunny days and trackdays on separate alloys like you say Nick

The tyres are around £165 to £170 a corner, so £660 to £670 is how much they would cost overall.

You selling up Toph?

I have been thinking that maybe big bhp, DSG and 4WD is the way to go, but I'm awaiting the R20 to see what that offers

yep! although as you know mine is a manual.. part of the reason i chose not to go DSG was because i was intending to turbo it eventually and i'm still not confident that the dsg will handle the 450+ bhp a turbo'd v6 will kick out!

re: the R20.. all sources seem to point at it being front wheel drive only with that clever electronic diff :undecided:

I really hope not  If it is then (much as it shames me!) I'll be going to Audi for my next car ........  :evil:RS3 anyone, with upgrades galore it would easily kickdown 400+ horsies
