Title: Sambo join's the mk5 brigade !
Post by: sambo on 25 June 2009, 18:14
Most of you already know about my hunt for a mk5 GTi so i'll just slap some photo's on for a minute.

Spec: 54 plate GTI 3 door, 52k, tornado red, full leather, mfd2 sat nav and highline, xenons, cd changer, auto headlights, folding mirrors, 17" poverty spec monza's  (don't mind them actually!)

Getting price's as we speak for a little paint work that need's doing, also getting the side skirts, rear bumper, splitter and sat nav aerial colour coded.
Alos got some R32 rear lights on there way and a cambelt change booked in. Then it'll go quiet for a bit while I save some money again..
Hope you like, any comment's welcome

Cheers, Sam

Cheers all, overall very happy with it, bit of a shame I have to pay more to sort a few paint defects out but life's a b!tch n all that.

Also really like the exhaust note of the standard pipes!

Whats the remap do to performance, obviously makes it go faster!  but comparing to my mk4, it seems to have a lot of low down torque but missing a bit mid range? I know I have an issue with a breather valve which is causing a lumpy idel so may be down on performance a bit too.. opinions?

Too much

£10k mate  shame I didn't make the move over to the mk5 a few months earlier really, could have had the same car but on an 05-06 for similar money, but who care's i'll be keeping to for a while so either way it aint gonna be worth as much as I paid for it!

This one seemed alright for the money - http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/VOLKSWAGEN+GOLF/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-24-25-50-62-112-144-240-4294966835-4294966886/advert.action?R=200925336543218&distance=35&postcode=m32+8bj&channel=CARS&make=VOLKSWAGEN&model=GOLF&min_pr=5000&max_pr=10000&max_mileage=&vehicleYearOfManufacture=2005&vehicleRegLetter=05

91k on the clock though

91k is alot, think about what it'll be on in 3-5 years time, no one will want it IMO. Also the blue one's seem to go for less than the others for some reason, not my cuppa tea but that's just me. Those 18" monza's aren't original either. Good spec though but for a little more you could get this

Well specc'd 3 door's are hard to find at a good price, took me a while and had to go to Glasgow to get it!!!!!

Sambo, you going to any shows this year? Would happily take you in mine (you can hear the Miltek aswell, I remember thinking it sounded nice as standard)

well done matey...you kept the mk4 or given it the missus?

Either way good choice, shame bout the colour...it'll only go pink
Leather looks in good nick as well with none of the prone bolster wear and reasonably price for the motor i'd say.  Get the skirts done and that and get a new "proper" sig done once all is carried out

Mk4 is for sale mate, had to get the new one before I could sell the old one. It won't go pink  i'll keep on top of polishing it. Interior is literally mint which was why i bought it really, and should have all the skirts, splitter and rear painted by the end of july

Not sure on show's mate, being down in Devon it's a right old trek, whats coming up anyway haven't been keeping an eye out like that? See how it goes!!

Cheers all, Sam

Sam

Even on a healthy engine there is a bit missing from the midrange - I believe its to do with the high pressure fuel pump, it cant quite supply enough fuel at mid range revs but when the revs pick up to about 4.5k it does give an extra kick as the pump can supply what its being asked from about that point onwards

Fantastic Sam. Looks like you've got a goody
Yeh, a couple of bits to do, as you say, but nothing major.

Well Done!

looks lovely mate

1 thing though, i've never seen those holes in the fog grille's, are they stone chip damage? oddly symmetrical if they are

interior sounds lovely too

Cheers all!

re: bumper hole's, there definatly supposed to be there, what for i don't know  i thought maybe to divert cool air into the brakes? No idea. Was going to get the open grilles until I realised only half of them are open... Don't really see the point

Those open holes are only found on the very early GTI's (like mine as well).  VW stopped doing them like pretty quickly.  No one seems to know why...

ah right. ye i saw the open ones. i guess the bit which is left "closed" is there to hide the uglies like the fog light brakets and cables, just a guess

but back on topic, looks great, jelous mine doesn't have an I ion the end lol

Just dropped the misses off to work, hence the early post. Car return 35mpg which consist's of 30 zone's, 40's and a bit of dual carrigeway cruising at about 80mph.

Pleased with that, the old mk4 would be nearer 25mpg

Still need to replace the PCV valve too, so may get a little better after that!

Yeah, I don't think you see them on 55/06 plate onwards.  Even some late 05 plates dont have them.

I have just 4 holes on my 55 plater

The bloke who was supposed to be selling me the r32 rear lights just refunded me  say's he doesn't want to sell anymore... he's had my money for 3 days

Anyway, they'll have to wait now... Just bought 2 new mirror indicators, cambelt, roller, tensioner, waterpump, PCV valve and bottle opener so i can use the cupholder. £158 all in so pretty happy with that.

I assumed if you had to buy it from VW it would be expensive.  Time to have a look on ebay!

Thanks and lovely car btw
