My diesel doesn't smoke - at all?!?! Not even when I bury my foot into the weave!?!? Is this a good thing or not :undecided:

depends which way you look at it
good in that it means your engine is performing at peak efficiency
bad in that clearly you need a remap

LOL. Don't start me off on that again - Nick is sick of talking to me
-
Obviously you haven't got enough torque

LOL. I can't afford for the clutch to sh*t out on me mate, which it would do when re-mapped - it's enevitable
If there was an AFFORDABLE clutch upgrade without making the clutch feel massively different I would.
-
I've done 20k since remapping my car
Nick is doing a sachs/lux clutch upgrade for £425 fitted
-

Hasn't your car been running rough???
Didn't Rhyso pay £8-900 for a Sachs clutch?!?!
£425 isn't too bad... :undecided:
-
Yeah, he has issues, but nothing to do with the clutch.
-

Because of the remap, right..?
-
Yes an No.
Its just issues with the car that where already there. The remap has just made them worse as its putting that little bit more stress on the car. I get the impression Steve is a lazy bastard and just lives with it :D

I don't think I'll ever be convinced :undecided: The extra poke would be nice, but not at the expense of (possibly) a new clutch and more expensive insurance premium.

Cheeky bugger
I've had the N75 valve go, once that was fixed the intercooler pipes kept blowing off, this was down to worn lugs and the wrong clips.
2 new pipes and now its cured, sort of :undecided:
Organic hybrid Performance Clutches, Sachs Friction Plate + LUX Uprated Pressure Plate rated 355lbft for the 130/150pd 1.9TDIs £425 fitted
That doesn't include flywheel but seems a very good deal
-
All depends what you want for a car. Remapping yours, upgrading the clutch and keeping it healthy and serviced will turn it in a SERIOUS tool.
-
even with a boost fault this is what I got on the dyno

just dont ask to see the roller coaster graph :lipsrsealed:
-
How much would the flywheel be just out of interest?
*must stop doing this to myself!
-
That is at the flywheel and wheel
-
That is at the flywheel and wheel
 I meant the cost of the flywheel...
-

Around £250 from GSF or £450+ from the dealers :lipsrsealed:
-
So the best part of £700 then! Bargain  Think I'll pass and learn to live with the standard power.

:D :D :D
-
£468 for Sachs friction plate and pressure plate - good for 400lbs ft torque
£200 for new flywheel
£200 labour
£40 new release bearing
IMO experience get the most decent flywheel you can afford as mines shot already :lipsrsealed: or at least i think it is :undecided:
-
Man up and get a remap. You're only around once.

spot on
-
£900 fook that
-
£900 fook that
That's what I said

All I ever seem to read about is how amazing the car feels after a remap. Then, after a few months it's "I think my clutch has started to slip" or "my flywheel's buggered" or "I've got a boost leak somewhere", or "my crankshaft has melted"....it just doesn't seem worth it in the long run IMO. If the Golf was meant to be as is after a remap, it would've come out the showroom like it. Each to their own.

clutch will slip regardless of a remap or not - its a wear and tear item at the end of the day
camshaft is a known problem and happens on standard cars; Ridg hasn't had his car remapped and his camshaft melted
boost leaks, again, can happen on standard cars
-

All accelerated by a remap!

well yeah but even then these things can happen at any time at any mileage or they don't happen at all
you don't have to remap it but for what Nick charges you save a fair bit of cash to put towards the inevitable repairs

Not true, cars have the ECU they have for varies reasons to do with fuel octane levels in different countries and not wanting to tread on the toes of other models such as the S3 to name a few. A MK4 is more than capable of handling the extra grunt a remap gives it.
I cant see us talking you into it which is cool, its your car after all.
Still a loser :D :D lol ;)
-
lol @ Alan

I have had no problems with my clutch and have done about 5k since my remap not had any other problems apart from a hose blowing off a couple days later which had also happened before the remap. Put a new clip on it been fine ever since.
