Looking into this as I adore the W12 body but as it isn't available and insurance when your 18 wouldn't bear thinking about (£15K for ed30!) and the fact its not in production.
http://www.exclusivetuningworldwide.com/english/m_golfw12.html
Anyone got one? I know a lot of car mechanics and may Contemplate the €5k package for parts only but it mentions tailoring the tailgate which sounds like a big job so migh be best left to them at €11K.
No doubt would add value to a used mk5 available from £5K up. They rekon it will add more than what the add on's cost so upwards of £15 grand.
19" a must, looks stupid without them.
I think its a good idea for me as removin depreciation would be invaluable in this day and age.
Appeciate Thoughts. and especially anyone with one.
Also any one know where I can get the VW covers for the standard black Monzas on an Ed30?
-
2 weeks to complete? Seems not that long tbh, considering the work involved, the respray, and then the exhaust etc.
-
Haha add more value than it costs!
How does that work then, surely any sensible person would just get them to do it on another car ... for less.
Plus you will limit your market for potential buyers to anyone under the age of 20
Personally not a fan.. at all. Only a car with a rediculous engine could get away with styling like that, but if you like it then that's all that counts. Would sooner put the 11k towards insurance on an ED30 though if it were me.
Sam
-
11k could buy you and ed30 surely?
-
At the end of the day I'd only get part of the insurance for 1 year. With this I have a car that does look very sporty, is One (ish) of a kind. It's just a lot of money to spend on a car if your not long past your test. A mark5 is a very nice car to be having at that stage.
Has anyone ever seen one of these in the wild so to speak?
And of course if im not happy with a 1.6/1.4 theres always chips for that.
Ed30's £21K new and hold their value reasonably well.
-
if you think you will add value putting this kit on your car, then you are deluded.
-
I agree....even with £11k+ of mods it still only worth what a normal golf is (maybe little more to the right person! but mod's like this don't add anything value wise! look on "other" forums for the cars with £15k of mods and there either silly priced or same as a std car
-
^^^^
Absolute bollox! My extensively modded car is worth at least £40k!!

[just joking]

don't listen to Robin..he's just an "old" boy racer!!
-
....
Sorry but that W12 bodykit just looks like a.........
....a strap-on add-on body kit! Thumbs down from me - It just doesn't look right - Just a better fabricated version of this : -

When did you spot me?
-
Seems pointless to me.
-
Seems pointless to me.
Nail on head TBH
-
maybe i am getting old but I cannot see the point in spending a wedge of cash making a slow car look fast. You will only get found out at the lights and wished you had not bothered.
My advice. Save your money and when you can afford to insure a 'proper' hot hatch you'll have the money to afford it as well. When i was a nipper i had a 1.2 nova and i was happy with that!
-
I dont like that kit at all.
It just looks awful.
Mind you each to their own. I like the Golf GTI the way it.
-
Dont do it. Theres a guy where i lived (on the isle of wight) with a kitted up mk5 (non gti) he has spent about £12k on the body/look of it and its sooo slow! He could have bought an insured a much better car for the cash.
I bought a saxo vtr at 18 and waited for my NCB to build up then bought a type r at 20, you could get a mk5 gti for the same as i paid for the ctr back then now so my advise is to wait
-
horrible kit... wait until someone hears what it sounds like!! wont need to have your windows down to hear them laughing!!
-
I'm not particularly interested in speed, more looks at the minute, the thing about this mod is that its very rare, I've emailed them to see how many are in the UK to see but I imagine its a handful.
It also comes with an exhaust upgrade and an option to have it chipped there too.
-
VW only made one car, I still think it is pointless, but its your choice.
-
Theyve chucked out 7 and have sold 20 kits.
They say in broken in english what I think mean the kit price is being lowered to €4K and that it is easy enough for a mechanic to fit.
They also say no cars that they are aware of are in the UK.
And reassuringly those beauiful white leather seats are €300 a pair, so at least I'll have a bit of W12.
-
^^^^
It sounds as if your mind is made up.
Pointless in my opinion, but each to their own.
-
You're terminology tells me you have no experience of how hard it is to get bodywork to look right on a car. that company will tell you anything to get another kit sold, what do they care, they dont have to come over and fit it.
they will tell you a "mechanic" can fit the body kit, what they dont tell you is the hours and hours a bodyshop will take blending in the seams and making it look right before painting. this isn't cheap.
another thing is, your insurance will go up, as its a modification and if you have an accident, it will be much more expensive to repair properly.
you'll get bored of it after a few months and wonder why you wreaked your car.
-
Who are you trying to convince us or your self?
-
In a word.... No.

Very good point, I have had experence of Rieger kits, some of them took 2 1/2 weeks to fit to a standard that was good enough to paint.
-
Spend the money ondropping it and some sick wide rims.

This costumes the human equivalent, would you wear it because its rare

-
I'd wear the storm trooper outfit, I wouldn't drive a car with that kit on it.
Looks like an expensive job to fit..so don't use cowboys to do the bodywork if you really must go for it. And those wheels are on massive spacers (W12 had custom wide rims) so it looks kinda silly from the rear with the skinny tyres. Maybe some porsche rims on there. It's still fast looks on a slow car though.. and it wont add more than 1 or 2 grand to the value imo.
-
It might add £1K to the value of your vehicle but you will make it unsaleable to 90% of the population...
15K for insurance on an Ed 30... what did you do?

Compare this to the link you posted and you will see how poor a copy it is.

You would be better getting a really nice set of wheels, a really good set of coilies(or air ride), re-map and a rare colour respray for that sort of cash and it would look miles better than that dodgy kit
-

Quite. In real terms you will lose a lot of money by adding that kit, unless you find an equally boss-eyed punter :D
-
Please dont do it, that kit looks so cheap.
Just think what that sort of money could buy in mods to make a sweet ride... rims, coilovers, exhaust ice etc....

Just do your self a favor if you get that kit fitted. Don't post any pictures unless it looks spot on or you have skin like a rhinoceros.
