I know this is difficult to judge as everybody driving is different but what sort of miles do you get per tank... i currently get around 330 per tank and mainly do short runs... Not motorway
-
220 to 350 miles....depending on my right foot and the road ahead
-
I don't run till almost empty but my overall average is around 29mpg.
-
Depends on how empty you run the tank but i usually get 320 before the 35 miles to go warning pops up.
i rarely do trips more than 15 mins
-
I mainly do runs of about 20 miles at a time.
I always fill up when I get down to the last quarter. At that point Ive usually done 320 miles.
The computer tells me I have just over another 100.
Hence I think 400 miles on a tank is pretty possible.
Im going on a long run in July, so will be able to test it better then!
-
Did Leeds and back on my own - 430 miles to the tank
Did Liverpool and back with a full car and overnight luggage, and although we didnt hang around, got 420 miles to the tank
For work journeys - 60 mile round trip of Dual/Motorway/A road and B road (real mix!), I get 380 to the tank.
Worst I have had is 340 (last fillup)
-
must be something wrong with my right foot, never get more than 270- 290 to a tank. drove from kent to minehead earlier this yearf ollowing a friend at 75-80 ish trip told me i'd got 33 average which still isn't good. i have bluefin on mine, seems from the comments on here that those with revo get more mpg
-
I get around 300 miles on a tankfull, but I've found that the car returns slightly better MPG when I have it in manual mode as I don't use 'kickdown' very often now.
-
On the whole, I average around 30mpg and I get about 320-340 miles to the tank. A real mixture of driving styles and road/traffic conditions.
-
320 when light comes on usually, although got 425 miles with a range of 10 miles a couple of weeks back which i was really pleased with
-
Computer says i have 100 miles left with the needle at the half full point
Think i need to stop flooring it everywhere
-
Very rarely see 300miles to the tank... but it is possible. take it the Gti tank is the same as R32??
-
GTI is 55litres...
-
GTI is 55litres...
The same:-
R32 Fuel tank capacity, galls/ltrs: 12.1/55 ltrs

Regularly got 360'ish with my old GTI, well over 400 on a l...o...n...g run
Cass
-
around 310-340. mainly short-ish journeys around town. On longer journeys it can get to 360. never ever seen 400 miles to tank.
-
255 when having fun, 355 with a long journey say of 150 miles included in my daily 12 mile stop start town commute. If no long trip then about 300 miles per trip to pay the chancellor his money (so he can clean a moat, furnish a townhouse, fix a helipad etc)

...........  :smug:.

Mostly do long journeys and I aim for 150 miles to the 3/4 tank mark, 250 to the 1/2 tank and 350 to 1/4 tank. Anything more is a bonus and I still have fun in between with epic overtaking etc.

I aim for 100 per quarter.
I usually get more, and that just makes me feel better!
lol
-
average about 37mpg as most of my miles are motorway and dual carriageway and mainly long runs. therefore see about 380 miles knowing there is about 2 gallons left in the tank.
Pretty dam good for Pirelli Golf with 7k miles on and a remap
This is what makes the 2.0T engine so good, it is frugal when pottering about but devastating when pushing on - the punch in 4th gear is amazing
-
Agreed, thats entirely possible - and easily achievable, you don't even have to drive like Miss Daisy to do so. Its a fantastic power plant
-
with my current car it's 320-360 miles per tankful, which I found disappointing after my previous MK5 when I could get 400 miles per tank. The car's going in for a service this week and I've asked the garage to see if there's anything obvious amiss.
The only significant difference between the cars is that the previous one had 17" wheels; current one has 18s
-
I have 17s.... thats interesting
Although your driving style and the type of journeys you do makes a World of difference, with this car the range you can get out can vary wildly, 100 miles difference in fact!
-
Just refuelled after taking a few mates out for "enthusiastic rides"
130 miles on just over seven gallons (lip to lip refill) = 18.57mpg.
-
Well on various types of journeys over a two week period with lots of fun thrown in, my average was 28.5mpg onmy ED30 dsg which to be honest ain't bad?? (this is on Tesco 99)
On my new toy, mr R36, same type of journeys as above and over same period, my average is 27.8mpg (this is on Tesco 95)
I'm pleased that a VW can give you so much fun and still be fairly economical!!!
-
An average of 37mpg on an ED30 - how on earth do you achieve that?
I've seen 37mpg on the DIS over very short distances, but to average that you can't be doing over 60mph.
I've just driven 350miles on a short trip to Weymouth and most of them have been at "miss daisy" speeds and I averaged 34mpg, which I thought was pretty good.
If you do that kind of mpg on a regular basis, then you either have a problem with your MAF and your car is under fueling or you should consider swapping your pirelli gti for a 1.4 tdi if you're after the ultimate in economy LOL!
-
As stated, I do around 45 miles every day - approx 22 to work, and then back again.
I leave home, and have 4 roundabouts to negotiate before I hit the motorway - around 5 miles or so.
I then do around 10 miles on the motorway. For 2-3 miles it can be stop start, or around 30mph at times. Otherwise its at 80mph.
then straight onto an A road for around 5 miles.
Its then another large roundabout before the final few miles, on another A road.
Usually travel at around 50-60mph on the A roads.
I have an ED30 and have had up to 38mpg from a single journey on several occasions.
Most of the time, on normal work days, I can average 35-36mpg - again at around 70-80mph, hence its very possible.
In fact, I aim for around 35mpg during work days, as then I usually have enough left in the tank for a blast at the weekends if I get the time.
I dont drive to/from work with a heavy foot, since I have steady moving traffic in my direction. The secret is to not put your foot down when accelerating, and to keep your speed constant, rather then speeding up to someones ass, then slowing, then speeding up again as the person moves etc. Stay constant along with the flow of traffic and you achieve a much better mpg return.
I learnt to do this after the amount of stone chips I was picking up from others when I drove too close behind them!! lol. Now I just stay back a little and they move out of the way as they see the car anyways.
On my drive home one day, I checked my computer, and it showed an average of 40mpg!
Although by the time I got home it had dropped to 37mpg.
I think this is the very best you can get out of a ED30/Pirelli - I'd be suprised if anyone got any more.
I have a long 300 mile jouney coming up in July - and I wont be driving with a heavy foot as my kids will be with me - hence Im expected 37mpg at the very least. I expect to do the 300 miles within 4 hours..... ;)
My car has covered just under 6k miles to date - some state the mpg is supposed to get better with age! Not sure how much better it can get TBH!!!
-
If you get any more than 25mpg, you aren't using the car properly and have to return it to me straight away.
-
what is quite suprising is the mpg range available... high teens through to 40mpg
-

That is easily explained....turbo addiction gives less mpg.
The R32 doesn't have the turbo to feed and so is a little more stable.
-
At cruising speed its a very frugal engine for what it is. At WOT its thirsty. This means on average its slightly above average for what it is.
Today I set the computer to instant fuel consumpion, cruising at 80 it was reading around 40-45 mpg. Booting it of a roundabout it was reading 7 mpg
As ifti says to get good fuel economy the secret is to be gentle on the throttle.
My long term average is 26... no Hurdy, you aint getting her
-

Okay then........5/10....must try harder to reduce mpg below 25

You would think that... but it is quite easy to get 15-16mpg on a blast!! generally cruising along it is alot more stable though.
-
I have just had my first service and the overall average has jumped from 30mpg up to 33mpg which was quite surprising. On my normal run i get around 33-34mpg ,380 miles per tank ,which is mostly country A roads. On the last bank holiday i got caught behind a tractor and a caravan for 18miles sitting about 35mph and the average was showing 49mpg! For a car with 230hp I think that this is excellent, my last car was a mini cooper and it averaged 27-28mpg.

400 def possible as i've done it twice already but thats at a reasonable 65mph rather than getting there as fast as possible.
usually get around 330 due to short runs, and if i go for "drive" its spirited. This around 28-29mpg
Anyone else notice how much uphill saps the juice? practically flows in like an ocean

Yes. Its a bit of a jekyl and hyde engine. When its good its good, but when its bad ...
If you're enjoy the geeky details the explanation of how FSI works goes a long way to explain this behaviour..
-
i have the 2.0 gt fsi
on average i get about 300 miles to 40 quid at the moment
dont drive to stupid either but cant get above 30 miles per gallon on average

While we're talking about FSI behaviour, does everyone elses standard GTI run at about 50% power until it is up to operating temperature? As if the turbo is just not "plugged in"?

Er ..... no!
Not that I condone booting it until the oil has warmed up, but there has been the odd occasion when I've need to go WOT to maintain a safe position on the road while she is still warming up, and I had full boost.
Get it checked out.
-
Hmmm interesting, might well do that. Although its so consistent its not a worry - but its definitely "below par" until its up above 70+ degrees, probably for the best :D
-
^ i'd say so
-
The DSG business has seriously warped my usual mpg... Im only managing 21mpg at the mo
-
my unmodded GTI is running at an impressive 33 average mpg. I have to say that surprised me!
-
My 2008 R32 gets nearly 300 miles to a full tank and nearly 25mpg.
Have a think about that.............................
-
Normal run on my way to work this morning, keeping at the same speed as the traffic in my direction, I managed a WHOPPING 39mpg at the end of my 45 min journey (21 miles total) on the A414 (3 roundabouts) for 2-3 miles, the M11 motoway for 10 miles or so, and the A406/A13 for the remaining 10 or so miles. Impressive huh!
Thats driving at around 75-80mph on the motorway, and around 50-60 on the A roads.
I can never get the same when driving back home though, since the roads are nice and open ;)
-
38MPG to work, country lanes, 44 other day to camber sands and back,
350 to 400 miles to tank.
-
this week i did a little test with my journeys to work - bored yes, but what else am i going to do? lol
Journey to work is 15 miles - 3 miles on b roads till the motorway then 10 miles on the motorway and then 2 miles on a roads in traffic.
usually i tend to sit about 80-85mph on the motorway and maybe drive the a/b roads a tad over the limit if its safe - the result of this the range of my tank drops about 25 or 30 miles (28mpg) for the 15 mile jouney.
This week i decided to just sit on the motorway going 70 in the left lane and then keep to the speed limits on the a/b roads.
3 conclusions:
1. i get to work a lot more chilled than i used to :)
2. it does add about 5 mins to my half hour journey
3. the chilled approach only uses 5 or 10 miles (37mpg) off my range as opposed to 25 to 30 - the tank is going to last me 2 weeks instead of 10 days.
i'm still going to let my hair down at the weekends because why would i have a GTI if i wasn't going to use it properly but i thought it was interesting the difference it makes to the daily commute - i mean at the end of the day - WHY THE HELL AM I IN A RUSH TO GET TO WORK ANYWAY? LOL
-
I now have the exact same approach to travelling to work - I sit at 70-75 on the M4 for 10 miles (at the moment through 2 miles of 50mph speed restriction)... no point hairing through there. The rest of my 30 mile commute is dual and single A road carriageway. I can do 36-37mpg quite comfortably even with a nice little blast on the final back roads to my office.
However occaisionally, like today, I meet up with something like a Focus ST, and I just cant help but giving it some beans and leaving them for dust with only the slightest of provocation :)
My mpg suffers then :D
-
I just got an astonishing 50 MPG on an 18 mile trip, I was stuck in steady traffic for the journey The car felt extra brilliant today for some reason, probably because I had a quick look at a 5 Door GTI Mk6 this morning at the dealers.

BTW this is with a stage 1 remap, and yes following my earlier crisis of faith
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=114982.msg1004406#msg1004406
My Oscarli remap is back on, and I think now that the weather has warmed up it is fantastic to drive. I am convinced that colder temperatures made the turbo a little too fierce for my liking. But that is for another thread....
-
My mpg seriously improved on my short 12 mile commute by switching off the ac, the heated seats and the big feck-off speaker in the boot. Went from something like 25mpg to 33 mpg. Also when I had the revo on trial I noticed a slight improvement in town too. All the toys demand current, current demands fuel. Still life is for living and loving not for pushing and a shoving.
