I'm taking it this is to do with me having it too loud? Set the gains too high?
I have a new 6 channel amp and have all channels bridged to 3 channels, 2 comps and a sub. I know how to set up the sound etc, just thinking is it my battery that is the problem hear as not enough juice is getting to it? Or is it the AWG wire I'm using (8AWG) which is the minimum recommended for this amp.
Any help?

how many fuses does the amp have and what make and model
-
grounding issue shady?? Were you running an amp on the same ground previously etc? A lot of amps do have protection against underload/overload
-
It has two fuses on the amp, and an inline fuse near the battery. It's a JBL GTO 755.6 I believe. As for the grounding, my ground is solid, it's on a bolt under the rear seat, contacting a surface of bare metal :)
I never had this problem with the old amp (4 channel JBL 1004e) and using the same cables.

had this brfore with a monobox 4 amp on my old 306 turned out it was the battery  it would run for a little bit and then cut out and go into protection mode, then when i ran the car and started it again it would do it al over again! my battery wasnt great and the amp just killed it!
your wiring will be fine it just means ure not going to get the best out of the amp as it cant suck enough power to run full but wouldnt cause it to cut out!
the only other thing to check would be the earth as said in above post. the beat place for an earth is a seatbelt mount clean it of all paint and tighten the earth (dont forget its alot of power to get rid of)
personally if its not a good earth then that will be ure problem but if you know thats all good then id check ure battery!
hope that helps
cheers

get a free battery test???

get a free battery test???
From whom?

i think that halfords do a free check mate

What am I looking out for then? What's bad signs etc?
-
yeh pop halfords, we have a lil green machine that gives a readout what percentage of efficiancy the battery is at :)
-
So if it's bad they will tell me right? Where can I get a new battery from that won't cost the earth so that I know because I don't want to spend £60 odd for a Halfords one.
-
If you travel to Bridgwater you could get one a lot cheaper than Halfords.

Surely there are other places I can get one much cheaper than Halfords? LOL! Halfords ones are around £60 :S

I looked at getting one for mine and was quoted £34 by a local company we use, that was back in Nov but have not gone up much.

Can't really be arsed with using my money driving to Bridgewater and then getting a £40 odd battery, when I may as well get it from Halfords for the overall same cost, if that makes sense?

No worries, only other place to try is Hickleys in Taunton or crazy as it might be but why not try Vw.
-
Might just give them a try  be funny to see how much they will try and get me to spend.
-
GSF??? dont they use the Bosch ones anyway??
-
mine used to cut out, wernt anything to do with battery, alternator etc, the power wire i used wernt man enough for the job :)
-
Just had the batterey checked at Halfords and it's running at 82% which apparently is really good, so what could be the issue? Alternator or wiring?
-
daft q but have tested the actual end of the power lead going into the amp, just to make sure its getting enough feed? voltage meter would tell you... And is the remote wire stable? When you say cutting out do you mean complete power drop out or just sound? If just sound then its more likely to be the amp itself, and if power then still leads me to the leads...or fuse ratings?
If not i might be selling my kicker amp and kenwood 7x10's on a custom stealth shelf as i never refitted from my mk3
-
i would say its either alternator or earth then, i wouldnt say its power cable not unless its earthing out on something but in that case would cause you more problems then just cutting out! if theres power to the amp and the batterys fine the voltage would never change not unless the batt didnt have enough power.
as regards to eliminating the remote cable id unplug it from the amp get a tiny bit of wire and link the remote to the 12v on the amp and try that. the amp will stay on constant so dont leave it like that just see if it stops cutting out!
if these are fine and the altenator is all good wich really it should be if ure battery was a good percentage then i would start to check the amp, maybe try it in a mates car or something, and the earth.
it could also be caused by having to smaller amp wiring as if ure asking alot from the amp the amp needs alot of power and it needs to get rid of alot of power so it trys to take as much as it needs from the batt however if ure amp cabling is to small it wouldnt be able to suck enough to get it running ie: it would cut out and go into protection mode!
hope this helps

Thanks for the info guys, but got my old amp back in now, eventually I'll upgrade again but at the same time I'll put a bigger power cable in. I know for sure the earth is fine, as my old amp (current now) never cut out ever. :)
-
Shady i had that prob. The amp would work soemtimes and sometimes it wouldnt, found out that the inline fuse was duff tone of the ends came off and i replaced it and has been fine need to get the box back in now! cant wait
