The sh!tty excuse for a jack that VW think is OK to supply with a car for changing a tyre, there have been many near death experiences with them

I've had one go Bob, but the wheel was under the car so saved it hitting the floor - I was changing a flat at the roadside BTW, not at home.

Not everyone reads the manual - anybody can make a mistake,
Not everyone is perfect.........
-
No need to be perfect, even my mum knows a jack that comes with the car is dangerous to use for too long!

Only because you told her
-
Im sure someone did but i didnt.
Even a trolley jack should not be used to hold the car up though, axle stands are a must!
I would never go under a car with just a jack, the guy is lucky he wasnt injured. £500 is not very much if you think about how bad it could have been!

-
Not saying £500 is not a lot of money mate, but your life is worth a lot more!
-
i know , just gutted
-
Chin up, hopefully it won't be as bad as you think. When the pictures are up the estimates on fixing it will come flooding in :P

At least your not injured, ask Jake for a rough quote when you upload the pictures,he'll give you a fair price that you should pay.

Happened to me too a few years ago
Would have though you could get most of that out with panel beating/ weld and pull method then a thin layer of filler to finish.
Infact if it was my car and you had access to a welder i'd ask a body shop if you can pull it out and they can finish it off.

Thats crap mate.
wont need a new quarter, I had a massive dent on a old car and they repaired it IIRC it cost £600 and was about the size of a basketball.
Do you have protected no claims???
I must remember for future reference if I have a puncture must phone the RAC *DO NOT use the jack* :lipsrsealed:
-
Have you asked Jake for a quote yet?

Sam
-

gutted for you m8 but was funny for me at the time.

-

Sam
He'll give you a guide price as to what you should pay,not point getting ripped off by your local body shops if it's only £250 worth of damage
-
that looks nasty bud gutted for you :(
-
Why/how are both rear wheels off at the same time?
-
had it up to up clip rear splitter and needed wheels off to un srew the srews holdin it on from the sides. i f**kd up big time
-
Ah, no! :( Next time use a small, 1/4" drive ratchet with a 1/4" socket & put the torx bit in that, instead - No need to take wheels off, then. ;)
-
did the jack actually collapse? Or did it topple over?
-
it was one of those scisor jacks the threaded part that goes through the middle bent and gave way which caused the other little wind up jack to topple over so u could say both lol
-
thats unlucky mate  same happened to me before xmas except mine moved towards me at the other side of the car before it wedged into the sill   made me move very quickly and after that i went out and got a trolley jack and now have axle stands to  i learnt the hard way :lipsrsealed: tbh i dont even jack the car up with it when i'm at home i use a trolley jack although mines not as bad as yours i touched mine in with some spare paint i have for a temporary measure but having read the post i see its been mentioned about R32 skirts  that was the thought i had at the weekend   as it will cover the sill damage and the money it would cost to repair my sill i can put toward pait/skirts :afro: so could work out ok hope you get sorted mate
-
so where are the recomended points to jack up the car?
good thing i got AA cover
-
Gutted for ya. but its just one of them things mate, i've seen a tractor fall off when the jack gave way, that did some damage to the fitter working on it
You'd still need to use the w/m if you've lowered ya car. My trolly jack wont go under till its been jacked up a bit.
Best of luck on the bodywork mate. :afro:
-
Thats grim mate  looks like a small job yet again leads to a BIG job
-
iam goin to get the hole in the sill sorted and cover it with a r32 skirt at the mo as i dont have the cash to get it all sorted etc. ill just have to bare the upper sorta dent for a while untill i can get some wedge together and get it all sorted and the rear quarter sprayed.
also axel stands and a new trolly jack on way this week
-
Just seen the pics alex looks bad sorry to see it like that mate
