Ive just been shafted buy vw. My car turns 4 years old on the 29th and vw have abandoned me.If you extend the warranty at 4yrs then it goes to 1k max payout per claim on named components instead of all components with no claim limit (still the same £400 though), how unfair is that, everything and i mean even having tyres changed at my supplying dealer has been done by them ive been 100%loyal to vw and this is the way im treated,f**king wayne kerrs.....i spoke to a manager at vw warranty and shes says theres nothing she can do. I will be phoning vw on monday to see if they can do anything im spitting bullets over this. Seams very unfair on people who want to keep there cars for a few years.
yes i took the warranty as mine runs out on 29th and i didnt want to have it run out and i do travel to europe quite often so ive saved about £200 on european breakdown cover. but can cancel it within 14 days...

Dealers have often been discussed at length on here mate... and Im affraid to say there seem to be far too many people with dealer issues.
The general concensus is to get in touch with VW head office and take it up with their complaints department. They are usually quite quick to sort matters out... and if you have been done over in any way then they are very good at kicking dealerships into shape. Hth :wink:

I bought my GTI last year and as it was coming up to 3 years old the dealer just gave me 3 months VW extended warranty on top of the remaining warranty. I looked into extending that and decided against as like the OP the cost vs the cover wasn't great. I'm sure the cover on VWs was a lot better a few years ago and VW have downgraded their warranties, as I don't remember issues like this from some of my other cars although most have been newer and had a longer chunk of factory warranty left so I may be talking rubbish.
I wasn't overly impressed with the VW used car warranty past the 3 year mark and it doesn't give you much confidence on VW UKs expectations for the car!
I think the rubbish warranty situation on top of the fact the car needs a cam belt at 4 years makes Mr Chung's comment seem like quite a good option!!! Shame that I personally couldn't stretch to a 09 model and certainly not at mk6 GTI prices!!! :cry:

the extended warranty is same as the manufacturers for the forth year its the fifth years that's crap.

Cheap enough if you do it within the original VW factory warranty period.

As a tyre kicker you must know that cars can go wrong.
At least I do.
Information for sensible fellahs:
If your Volkswagen is a personal import of UK specification, you’ll only be covered by the warranty applicable in the country of purchase. You can add a warranty extension at any time within the two years of your warranty, taking your cover to a full three years

Its the 4th to 5th year warranty.Still not phoned vw as im really busy at the moment, my old service manager is trying to get me a "higher up than the front line defence/fobber off'ers" phone number. Anyone on here no of such numbers....

volkswagon customer services are officially on my hate for ever list, the bastards are not interested in any of my points. its take it or leave it attitude stinks and a letter will be written to somebody higher up the food chain later.it amazes me how Hyundai can expect there cars to last at least five years but vw cant....rant over..

Strange really isn't it, years ago a car's mechanicals were all easily repaired by anyone with competance, yet the bodies rotted away in about five to six years thus rendering them pretty worthless after a short life span. Nowadays the bodies last forever yet the rest of the car is full of stuff that can't be fixed very easily and loads of electrical gizmos that don't even get attempted repairs, the 'technicians' just whip 'em out and chuck a new one in. I bet half the time it's only a simple bit that's gone wrong resulting in a whole replaced component at £££££
I still think the mk2 Golf is the most complete car ever, if well looked after the body lasts indefinately, there aren't that many high tech bits in it to go wrong and the car was screwed together properly from the factory. It was a decent size for a family yet small enough to fit in a parking space etc etc.
Or am I wearing rose tinted specs? :grin:
