as above recently just started hearing a whine of my gear change when i run through the gears, i know this is somethign to do with suppression but is it a problem with earth, stereo or something on the car possible x relief relay? oh car is fitted with sub and amped6 x 9s, and standard speakers, cheers
-
I have never heard of this before.
do you mean it goes with acceleration ( if so this is pretty common) but making a noise when you change gear is a very strange one as you should not be making/breaking/changing any electrical connection.
-
Is it a pioneer by any chance? Alternator wine could be your problem.
-
sorry me not explainig properly yes it is on acceleration i apologise for confusion, any ideas? earths etc? cheers

^^^^they are prone to the internal earth straps breaking and causing this. It happened to me.....it is fixable with a home bodge. I'v got a picture somewhere....Is the sound coming from the amped speakers? Are the std speakers amped?
-
i no this sounds odd but does it sound like a supercharger whine becuase that means you power cable is interfeering(sp) with your rcs\speaker cables.

Called alternator wine, is your power cable on the same side as speaker wire/RCAs? It should be on the opp side.
-
yah its a bit like a supercharger sound, it was fine wehn i first fitted it, yes the sound is coming through 6 x 9s and sub i think and it kind of crackles when i take the facia off, guess il check wiring properly tomorrow, thanks

ever experienced this?
Its an urban myth, i.e, it never happens.

moving the cables may very well have solved it, but it is not because they were separated ;)

anything with power going through it ie power cables immit an energy field and can be picked up by rca`s depending on the sheilding on the rca`s. i used to find it was the cheapy rca`s that it happened on mostly and if it was to speakers like the rears or fronts. i never found it to do it with subs but thats not to say it wasnt happening it just means it wasnt heard because of the different sounds that subs give compared to rear or front speakers. so i would run power and rca down seperate sides of the car make sure your earths are solid if all that fails change the rcas.
-
Power and RCA do sometimes interfere with each other, its always best practice to run them down seperate sides.
However i;ve done plenty of installs for people where cables have all gone down the same side and theres been no interference - depends on equipment and installation.
Best bet is to check that the grounds are nice and solid, make sure the surface you are grounding to is good and clean - no rust, corrosion or paint on there and then tighten the wires up. If you have a multimeter i would also check the grounding to ensure that the resistance is low from amp to ground.
You can buy suppression kits that are supposed to elimate the noise, i've always found these totally useless, at best cutting the noise down but not eliminating it.

wampablo - got your pm, unfortunately i dont think i've made enough posts yet to be able to reply.
I dont work in the trade any more unfortunately so not sure if i'll be much use in getting you a job - ironically i'm now in recruitment.
Have you built a portfolio of previous projects up? i would suggest this is your first step, if you can demonstrate to an installer that you have a good technical knowledge and a proven ability to install then im sure someone will give you a chance.
