Anyone know if the individual faulty circuit can be temporarily disabled via VAG-COM?
Got the dreaded warning lamp on, and its booked in for next week, but I'd dearly love to come down to the JKM RR meet. But ain't willing to do so with all airbags and SRS systems disabled. And JKM wont be able to get my RS on their rollers!
EDIT: corrected thread title! :embarassed:

OK, thanks for the reply.
I asked the stealers to do it, but they refuse, stating they can't disable one individual component due to some BS about safety and legal issues. But that is utter BS, because on my Audi, you have to take it to the stealer if you need the front passenger airbag disabled. And I also pointed out that with having the airbag warning light on, then EVERY airbag and seatbelt tensioner is disabled - yet they are happy to let me drive the car will ALL the SRS features disabled!
I actually reckon they are just too thick to work out which part of the coding needs changing . . . .

surely you no someone with vagcom? there must be a master reset for all of them. i had my done on a sh!tty snap on thing

Sadly, no!
Actually, I do have a genuine vagcom lead, but don't have a lappy, and I'm foooked if I'm unbolting all my desktop pooter!

Yeah, the stealer cleared the individual fault code, but because they didn't actually fix the fault - so a new fault code is stored, and the light keeps coming back on.
But there must be somewhere in the main coding which tells the whole airbag system exactly which components are fitted - just like the side airbags in the seats - most Golfs have them in the front seats (apart from the Recaro shell buckets), but hardly any have them in the rear seats. So there must be some way of 'permanently disabling' the faulty component, and then re-enabling it when they actually fix it. But trying to explain all that to my local stealer - will I'd be more effective if I p!ssed of the bow of the Titanic!

My mate has the Snap-On one - the 2500 one I think. But he has no end of trouble with his VAG coding adaptor - and it has repeatedly failed to correctly read full VAG codes, and more worryingly, fails to clear them too!
Another local business does use vagcom, but he does charge quite a bit - and I don't mind paying to get the job done, but I don't really want to pay for loads of time whilst he searches for something he actually can't do.

well i had a faulty drivers side, side airbag squib and they was like yh new airbag £160 so i reset the light a few times then tried linking it out by joining all the wires up  didnt work so sold the car and bought a mk4 turbo
but they said it may be the contacts that need cleaning as well so i tried that then as above sold the car i hated it anyway

If you live in Norfolk/Suffolk, I've got a lappy and a VAGCOM lead and can give you a hand...

Thanks for the offer, much appreciated.
But do you know if the individual SRS components can be disabled? The stealer were being very shady about what was wrong, stating either the front drivers seat side airbag, OR the front drivers seat pre-tensioner - so I am a bit in the dark from their diagnosis. I actually think they are being shady for a purpose (but this aint the time or place to discuss at the mo).
