And besides, UK plates look so much better than German plates, and Spanish ones for that matter!

Well my plates aren't the German layout, but the font isn't standard, but it's the D euro flag that the police picked up on, since then I've stuck some gaff tape over that until I get my new plates.
Anyone looking for pressed UK plates there's a group buy going on, you might just have enough time to get in on it.

Been pulled 3 times whilst running german plates.
Only once were the plates mentioned, copper said: "so is this car an import?" "no, they just look german" "oh right, looks cool"

The forum guidelines (that you signed up to) say "no duplicate posts". Accept the advice as it was intended.

I was fined twice for my German plates so took them off.
-
I was pulled for my German plates, police let me off so long as I got them changed to UK plates, I did, didn't want the fine. However the new UK pressed plates are ideal for anyone who wants to have the look of a german plate but still be within the law. As mentioned, the group buy is still on, until tomorrow when I finalize it, get in there whilst you can :)

i dont give a fark on whats legal or not, but one thing, why do people wanna look like a jerry, we are fookin english, be proud of that is what i say, and our plates look a hell of alot better than that daft jerry font...
right off back to watch time team now

I don't know, you might be able to get them to put it on if you ring them up? It's a small thing but sets the car off better than the acrylic ones.

Are pressed plates with uk font still going to be legal with the new regs that are comming then.

What are the new regs?

Are pressed plates with uk font still going to be legal with the new regs that are comming then.
what new regs would that be??? the pressed ones are uk font, correct size characters, correct spacing, reflective, and more importantly have the bsau145d mark on them making them perfectly legal for uk even if r plod doesnt think they are

Have been reading reports in the magazines that the mot's will be changing to include a number plate test which includes type face and reflective qualitys and also that they are fixed to the car in the correct place, going to coming into force June / July.

Well the placement of the plate is responsibility of the owner, but the actually spacing, type face and reflective qualities are all legal with these bad boys. :) as hobbiniho said, it's got the BS number on, that's the proof of the pudding :)
-
mine have the BS mark on them too   doesnt mean they are legal :lipsrsealed:
-
yeah i learned about the bs number when i was stopped in my mums car which is an import and the copper said that the plater were illegal because the characters were too small i showed him the bs number and made him look like a knob he still argued and i said that i wasnt going to pay the fixed penalty notice and that i would take it to court, needless to say he didnt give me one

i got my plates off ebay a few year ago £20
never been pulled over they are english lettering with the gb badge on the side
I have been followed a few times by police but they have never done anything
I might be ok i am thinking a friend of mine had german lettering he got fined
-
The simple answer is, keep it legal! Not difficult is it? Fit the correct number plates and you will not be bothered by the Police. It's that simple. If you want German plates, go live in Germany!
-
 polish plates are they way ahead anyway - every fookers got them round me anyway

Spot on.

So friggin true! there everywhere!
i must admit its quite a funny read this thread! i think people should just do what they want! illegal or legal! if its your car do what you want to it! people dont need to dictate to each other on whats the correct thing to do!

I had the police round my house yesterday and she was inspecting my car (due to window incident) and all she had to say was nice car
And i had my new tiny plate on the front

I think there would be two looks to your car. SUPER smooth and clean without the plate, and possibly aggresive? with it.

Mine are Uk font, correctly spaced, correct size and illegal! If a copper really wants to be a coont and have a go about them........I will proberbly be getting locked up soon!!
oh I wonder if ebay.pl needs an english plate supplier?? I will mention it to my polish friends and tell them its "scene" to have foreign plates displayed!!

Yer I love the look without the plate, but need to get the VR6 splitter on again!
At the moment, I have the full sized plate stuck on the splitter :smug: legal still

DAMN, just got given a producer haha, my plates got them off the saviour "the plateman", problem is mine couldnt be more illegal if i tried, D mark, the font and i even had the stadt on it haha. In al fairness tho he said that he didnt want to because he thought the car looked good and looked after but he allready buzzed in on the plate
Not all police are coonts, usually the older coppers are awesome.
Anyway rant over
-
Wel, well started something here lol!!

Yes, a lot of noise.
-
indeed. TBH, its a stupid fashion and i dont see the point of risking £30 and points and getting car unregistered just becuase you think german plates look cool. Stick to Standard UK plates or the most UK font and sized numbers and letters on pressed metal plates, even then id say stick to standard acrylic plates, its not THAT much of an improvement tbh....

I resent that lol! I can bet you wouldn't say that if you saw them in the flesh, on pics they aren't done justice, they are alot better in person :)

As above, I have always thought acrylic plates looked better, yes I had pressed plates once but not that keen on them.

i dont give a fark on whats legal or not, but one thing, why do people wanna look like a jerry, we are fookin english, be proud of that is what i say, and our plates look a hell of alot better than that daft jerry font...
never realised there were different plates in england than from the rest of the uk.
anyway - everyone here has changed their tune. next year hids will be getting ripped out as the fines roll in?

It has helped with the fact fines were coming in thick and fast for most people, and it's just not worth it, if like me you still want the pressed plate look there are facilities that legally do it :)
As for HIDs, I was going to get them for my Hella Twins but thinking about it, they probably will whack a massive fine on if you're caught with them in the wrong car, and again, don't think I wanna be the first person coming onto the site saying:
"£75 for being caught with my HIDs on, this is bullcrap, where's the justice??!?!!!"
So instead I'll just get some better bulbs, legal and no fines :)
-

mind that hids are potentially dangerous whereas metal plates with different writing are not (unless you count scratching pedestrians, but then that would be the least of their worries)

Different writing apparently doesn't get recognised by the [poorly written] ANPR software (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) meaning they can't issue any money making fines. Obviously they don't want to issue fines to foreign drivers
And the choice to run different number plates wasn't made by me, but the previous numpty owner.

That is and always has been the issue, if you pass an ANPR camera and it cannot read your reg they will pull you over it was why I got stopped and fined twice.

so... not only did you have non-UK font, but you also had a dash inserted and also a 'D' Euro flag... and you didn't expect to get pulled up for it??
not only that... after you were done for it the first time... you kept it on!
genius. absolute genuis.

Just called and said hes been pulled because of the german plates.
The copper said they have been told by DVLA to crack down on it!
Silly pr!cks gave him a warning but forgot to breathe test him

not when running dodgy HIDs,
and not if not declared to insurance companies
My lights are declared and my HID's aren't dodgy/illegal, as a matter of fact I've spent the last two nights in cop land (Ipswich) and haven't had any trouble whatsoever.
Well I spent a month with German Style font, pressed plates, with the Euro D logo and Stadt stickers in the middle - since Santa Pod RWYB day on Feb 1st - in Ipswich and got pulled near Blockbusters on Felixstowe Road. The cop was livid as he thought I was trying to do a runner  He said I was driving dangerously - I was doing 30mph in a 30 zone and pointed this out to him and he told me to shut up otherwise he'd do me for dangerous driving, illegal plates and anything else he could think of... He calmed down after a couple of minutes of reading the riot act, told me he was a VIP Police driver who drove the Royals around when they were in Suffolk and turned out he was a VW enthusiast (Beetles) too... I very reluctantly removed the plates when I got home...

Exactly. The light generated by a HID capsule is identical to the blinding light developed from an arc welder - and there are some fairly strict regs on that. :nerd:
And at the end of the day - if some stoooopid pedestrian chooses to walk out infront of a car, then they deserve far more than a few scratches from a number plate.

But incorrectly fitted HIDs (so that covers ALL retro fit kits) can actually burn the surface of the retina. They really are dangerous when used incorrectly.

NO NO NO NO.
Kells HIDs are just fine. He says so, so it must be true. DO NOT QUESTION HIM!
Far more dangerous is the blinding light he shines from his ass. Thankfully it's a light only he can see, so only he is blinded by it.
Also, as he's obsessed by men's arses and only surrounded by stunningly beautiful women of the type we will never be able to pull he's forced to look at his own ass to satisfy himself, which is how he keeps being blinded by the light that shines from his own ass, which can cause him to randomly spout utter rubbish.
As you were.....

I'll stick it on the front just before I go? Not likely to fall off being driven up the ramps
