Title: Today's work for me
Post by: Wazzzer on 22 February 2009, 22:21
I decided to fit my Forge side mount intercooler today as I had a spare hour. It turned into a 4 hour job though lol

First of all I had to get the standard IC out which was an easy job once the bumper was off

A pic to compare the intercoolers

the gap in the wheel arch waiting for the Forge IC

I had to trim the plastic front panel to allow the end tank to fit

then the new intercooler showing it's face

Only problem is I broke a jubilee clip on the inlet manifold hose so I haven't been able to take it out and see if there has been any noticable difference but I'll give it a go 2moro once I get the new clip on there

I also fitted my LED indicator bulbs while the bumper was off

Here's a quick pic of the engine bay with the S3 covers fitted too

Unlike Liverpool or Haysham!!  Plus it's like £100 or something to take the car over.  No speed limits though really over there :afro:

from what i've read you'll experience less lag with the SMIC  :undecided:

less lag you say??? Mmmm wonder why that is, so they both would give similar power gains

i'd imagine it's to do with the SMIC having a smaller volume, and thus taking a shorter period of time for the IC to fill, the problem is with a smaller volume the IC isn't going to be able to cool as much air as quickly as a bigger IC, causing the power to drop off quicker than one with a large volume / more efficient cooling, similar to how a smaller turbo spools up quicker, but doesn't pull for as long.

It'll be fine for the power I'm aiming for though

There is a replacement pancake pipe designed to fit the 1.8T, THS make one a nd so does another company. I'll find the auction

Here you go, only problem is it includes the throttle body to intercooler pipe as well which I wouldn't need!

See your new rim's are on rich, snuck them on didn't you?

Looks really nice in the pic's big improvement. Do you notice any differance with the weight loss from the r32 rep's? less unsprung weight and all that?

Will have a gander when i'm next up the office

Doubt it's in your head mate, probably feels a bit sharper and maybe a touch better acceleration? My new wheels are lighter too, looking forward to getting the concrete blocks off (r32 wheels)
