I decided to fit my Forge side mount intercooler today as I had a spare hour. It turned into a 4 hour job though lol
First of all I had to get the standard IC out which was an easy job once the bumper was off

A pic to compare the intercoolers
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0803/WesRS/22022009533.jpg)
the gap in the wheel arch waiting for the Forge IC
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0803/WesRS/22022009534.jpg)
I had to trim the plastic front panel to allow the end tank to fit
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0803/WesRS/22022009535.jpg)
then the new intercooler showing it's face

Only problem is I broke a jubilee clip on the inlet manifold hose so I haven't been able to take it out and see if there has been any noticable difference but I'll give it a go 2moro once I get the new clip on there
I also fitted my LED indicator bulbs while the bumper was off
Here's a quick pic of the engine bay with the S3 covers fitted too

You can tell the RR is happening soon. Every bhp counts! :afro:

not doing the RR day unfortunately mate, not got enough free cash to go. It costs me a good £40 to get over on the ferry everytime
I paid £60 for my covers, right place right time

Mate, I know the pain, I used to live on the Isle of Man! :)
-
christ even worse, at least I dock in Portsmouth or Southampton

Unlike Liverpool or Haysham!! Plus it's like £100 or something to take the car over. No speed limits though really over there :afro:

any real differnece between the SMIC and FMIC? or just really the location

any real differnece between the SMIC and FMIC? or just really the location
from what i've read you'll experience less lag with the SMIC :undecided:

less lag you say??? Mmmm wonder why that is, so they both would give similar power gains

Can you fit the pancake pipe to this aswell or is there no need?

Can you fit the pancake pipe to this aswell or is there no need?
as in the uprated pancake pipe from Forge??
urm its designed for the TDI's  not GIT's GTI's
AFAIK the diameters are different

Thats what I thought but Dai said they do them for the 1.8t he gave me a link to a site that does them wasnt Forge though.

chances are that one won't fit the Forge item but i could well be wrong - info seems pretty scarce on them tbh :undecided:

Ah right mate cool just wondered.

i'd imagine it's to do with the SMIC having a smaller volume, and thus taking a shorter period of time for the IC to fill, the problem is with a smaller volume the IC isn't going to be able to cool as much air as quickly as a bigger IC, causing the power to drop off quicker than one with a large volume / more efficient cooling, similar to how a smaller turbo spools up quicker, but doesn't pull for as long.
-
It'll be fine for the power I'm aiming for though
There is a replacement pancake pipe designed to fit the 1.8T, THS make one a nd so does another company. I'll find the auction
-
Here you go, only problem is it includes the throttle body to intercooler pipe as well which I wouldn't need!

Take it for a drive bud just be careful with the rims
-
See your new rim's are on rich, snuck them on didn't you?
Looks really nice in the pic's big improvement. Do you notice any differance with the weight loss from the r32 rep's? less unsprung weight and all that?
Will have a gander when i'm next up the office
Sam

Well funny you say that as the BBS wheels are loads lighter and the car feels much better with them - could be in my head tho :undecided:
-
Doubt it's in your head mate, probably feels a bit sharper and maybe a touch better acceleration? My new wheels are lighter too, looking forward to getting the concrete blocks off (r32 wheels)
