Now that is funny!
Autocar ran a road test of the mk 5 GT TDI (or whatever they're calling it this week) a few weeks ago, running the DSG box.
It had a few extra's lumped on, including full leather, sat-nav, xenons, metallic paint and an electric roof.
The on-the-road price was an eye-watering ?24k
Bare in mind that the GTi will be better equipped (and therefore more expensve) a similarly spec'd GTi will probably be ?25k.
Pardon my french, but does anyone else think that's f*cking ridiculous money?! You can buy a lot of metal for that sort of cash, motors that either fall into a class above, or have a siginifacnt performance advantage.
-
A quick "new car" search on the autotrader site for cars costing ?25k showed some very appealing results.
?25,000 will get you a BRAND NEW:
Subaru Imprezza
C Class Turbo Diesel Mercedes
Vauxhall VX220
Ford F150
Chrysler Crossfire (drool)
Honda S2000
Mazda RX8
3 series bimmers (eh, no thanks but still..)
Audi TT !! (serious family competition there)
Lexus IS
The list goes on and on... even makes the mk4 R32 look overpriced doesnt it.
-
ha thats funny
-
Now let me see i wonder the agony of choice.
1 x mkv for 24k????? :o>:(
or
9 x mk3 16v gti for 24k at roughly 3k each????? ;D
or
4 x mk4 16v gti at roughly 6k each???? :)
NO CONTEST " LOL" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
For the price of the mkv thats 25k you could get yourself 62.5 copies of my car! Problems and all ;D
-
I thought the idea of The Golf GTI, was an affordable performance car for the masses! Obviously "the masses" are earning far more than they are letting on. :-\
-
i read its gonna be ?19,000 in the sun motoring column? not that it matters its still an untouchable amount :-[

?25k Will get you a twin turbo supra, A bodykit for it, New rims, Exhaust, Turbo upgrade and still leave you with a few grand for insurance.
Supra - ?12,000 for a minter
Bodykit - ?2000 (with fitting)
Rims - ?2000
Zorst - ?500
Performance upgrades - ?3000
Still leaves the odd ?6,000 :o

I've saved like a crazy man to replace my GTi 20v Turbo that I bought brand new 6-years ago. But at these prices it may be time to look elsewhere. There is quite a selection of tinware to choose from in the ?18-23k bracket, and I just can't afford to support the ailing German economy!
-
I reckon they should launch the Citi Golf here ;)
I'd buy one!
-
new gti starts at 20k if you want to wait another 6 months for the recaro version and sat nav then its goner set you back 28k for all the trimmings. the new A3 V6 is 22k
think there way off the mark there if the gti is 20+ whats the new V6 goner be priced at 35k?
-
I followed an A3 3.2 Quattro out of Milton Keynes on Friday evening. It was only after several miles that I actually noticed the "3.2" badge on the boot, it looked nothing special, not for ?22k anyway.
I'm just waiting to see a new Golf GTi, and what I should expect for my extremely hard earnt ?20k. :o

is that like for like spec? All this talk of 25k golf's is a bit misleading when you don't compare it with another car with like for like spec. it would probably be a poverty spec A3 V6 compared to a fully spec golf. is that a fair comparison?
How much is an entry level GTI? £19k/£20K?
And if the performance of the V6 A3 is anything like the MK5 R32 then the performance isn't going to be that different.
:undecided:
