Anyone know how I remove the walnut trim that's on each side of the stereo/heating controls? The thin bits?

you can do it the easy way ie small flat screwdriver and try to move it upwards but tbh i would remove your side trim (of the centre section) and radio/cd player etc to leave just the cage and then remove that as a unit the side pieces can be pushed up and then pop out not to bad a job
-
I wondered if I'd he able to just pop the trims off or not.
-
possibly but at the bottom of the trim piece it curves round and under  there isnt much room to lift as such iirc somebody(although i think not on here)has done it this way tbh i would remove trim etc and try it that way bob

i don't mind the wood trim either, but if you want to change your Knob you really need to match the trim.

I don't mind the standard trim, it doesn't offend me enough to rip it out

I quite like that, if my imitation alu bits bubble up in the summer (like everyone predicts ) I might spray mine up
