on saturday morning my clutch cable snapped  after an hour waiting for recovery truck  with engine running he turned up towed me home and i then replaced cable after i went to work so car was stood for about 3 hours
after i replaced cable i went to start car and it wont turn over so i was wondering if their is anything i could have knocked that would stop the car from turning over
when i turn ignition on fuel pump primes then when i turn to start i can hear pump run and if key is held in start position pump stays running
im going to take a wire from battery possitive to the solenoid to check if immobiliser is off but after that im stuck
so all help greatly recieved
cheers

Did you disturb a bonding cable that earths the engine/gearbox to the chassis? I would look for this after checking the battery for voltage.
-
dont think so but will check
check
-
or the little wire from the starter motor
:undecided: :undecided:
-
that is connected as it is only a spade connector due to using mk3 starter and been there before
-
tip top :)
i'd go with the earth wire mate
mine was screwed when i changed the clutch
fried my ECU :( :(
-
if i put ignition on and run wire from to battery to starter and it turns over it will start correct
-
assuming the +ve and -ve connections from battery are all ok yes :)
-
everything was ok 3 hours before i fitted the cable
as for looking at it tonight nuts to that its far to cold and snowy
oh and ive got wifes car till thursday
-
my guess. that small blue starter motor wire has disconnected.
-
the small blue wire is to the alternator
i think you meant the chunky red/black trigger wire to the starter right? :)
-
grrr ive just been out and had another wiggle of the trigger wire and nothing so after that i left ign on and put a screwdriver from starter body to the nut on live feed and all i got was sparks so i think my starter is boned as im sure it should have turned over doing this
-
yeah if you connect the swiched contact wih the main one it should turn
THAT'S IF ITS GETTING AN EARTH
try adding a jump cable from the earth of the battery to the engine block
if this does nothing to help then change the starter
mine was a complete arse when i had my earth wire broken i thought it was the starter , rebuilt it and no better
-
cheers mate i will be having another look tomorrow night and if earths are fine and the jump lead doesnt work looks like im laid in the snow and ice and fitting a starter
-
the way i found my problem was
i used a mutlimeter set to ohms
connected to the battery earth to and the gear box
i had continuaty when the ign was off BUT as soon as the ign was put on boompf i got about 300 ohms of resistance
i stripped the cable off the car it looked ok on the outside but as a cut the insulation off it was absolutly knackered burned , green and really brittle
made a new one and perfect (after i bought a new ECU ) it got fried because of the earth path
-
did the jump lead from engine to neg and still same so fitted a starter and it turns over  but will not fire now :cry:i have spark and fuel and battery has started to die so took it off and put it on charge for the night so will see tomorrow
im starting to get narked with this car now as on saturday clutch cable snapped bonnet catch bust and starter died and to top it off mot is due next saturday
does fate hate me or what
-
now check how much fuel your getting into it
mine flooded it as soon as the ign was turned on
the ECU is fried fella
sorry to tell you this :(
i lost 20ltrs of fuel out of my sump after i found my problem GRRRRR
this is the link for my problem

it cant be ecu as you can pick them up quite cheap so it is going to be something like a single pole twin flange valve that costs £500 and needs £300 of specialist tools and a couple of professors at £1000 per hour to fit more than likely
-
make sure you get the one with the right numbers on it as they are differant
nah not expensave , mine was hard to get as the car had a cat from factory so needed the ECU with a lambda probe
-
might chuck a sickie tommorow and give it a looking at as im not convinced about ecu at moment as main earth was fine
im going to start with the free stuff like cleaning plugs different leads etc
-
ooh i've just re read your post
oops sorry
did the jump lead from engine to neg and still same so fitted a starter and it turns over
plugs and leads are a start
-
and as soon as i started reading your link i thought bollx as the rocker earth was a bit loose until i read further and saw that only sends clocks dodgy
i think its just being awkward because its been left sat covered in snow for almost a week
-
put battery on today and it started straight away :smiley:and think i must ahve flooded it other day :embarassed:
-
tip top mate
sorry for scaring you so much
-
no probs mate all help is appreciated
i think i will treat it to new plugs leads rotor and dizzy cap after mot to avoid further winter embarresment
-
the small blue wire is to the alternator
i think you meant the chunky red/black trigger wire to the starter right? :)
Just disconnect this small blue wire at the connector block and the engine did not turn over. I noticed this when I changed the gearbox too. :undecided:
-
hmm, you need to check your wiring! all this does is control the battery light on the dash...
unless its part of an alarm or something.
do you have a picture of it, i am intregued!
-
ez jonny.
That small blue wire that goes to the alternator. My alarm must has something to do with it then?
If i disconnect, the engine will not start. No starter motor. the fuel pump primes up and ignition comes on etc but no cranking
The wire was corroded at the connector block which sits around near the starter motor. I replaced it with a straight wire.

Been ok though but this is why i mentioned the blue wire. im guessing its a fault with my electrics :embarassed:
-
hm thats a new one on me! kinda handy though as without that wire the alternator wont charge the battery. out of interest, does the battery light come on with the ignition and go out when the engine is running, both with the wire connected and disconnected?
-
i think it maybe something for the alarm ,
so it knows the engine is out or running
maybe some sort of "turbo timer" in the alarm :)
what alarm is it ?? who wired it in ??
