Title: Walk-me-home lights
Post by: AlanD on 24 January 2009, 13:38
Can these people disabled via VAGCOM and the lights just turn off when I lock the car rather than waiting 20 seconds before turning off? I dont have VACGOM to check if it can be done but Im sure someone at the Bristol meet next weekend will and will want some beer tokens.

Reason is its getting VERY tiresome. Whenever I go into the city I go via train and everyone gets to the car park at the same time and without fail everytime someone will shout at me "Oi mate, you left your lights on" and I feel like a twit trying to explain to them (who clearly doesnt care) that they are walk me home lights and will turn off in 20 seconds or so. I cant just ignore them so feel I have to explain.

Im a pikey and dont have highline :(

OK then. Try locking, unlocking (without opening a door) and relocking. They should go straight off. Well, they do on mine.

....

I want to do the opposite! I want them to stay on longer so I can see when putting my ramps away in my garage in the dark (rented and no electric power).

I have Midline 'puter.

Yes I know you can do that, but I dont want to do that lol, I just want to lock the car and the lights to go off, cant be too much to ask can it. Was just wondering if anyone had turned it off with VAGCOM.

I will get Rhyso to look at it next weekend for me :) Thanks in advance mate haha ! :D

yes, I have VagCom and you can turn it off. I have turned my coming home option off but left the leaving home on.  You simply uncheck the COMING HOME function under the 09 central electrics options. Its dead easy to find and obvious when you see it in VagCom.

Yes, but can you change (extend) the length of time for these lights, please?

Leaving home lights?

Leaving home lights?

....I don't know what they're called - The lights which stay on for a short (too short) time when you first lock and leave your car.

I thought they where the walk me home lights (which is what im talking about). synnea said he turned his coming home option off (which to my understnading is when you get out the car and lock it the lights stay on for x amount of time) but left the leaving home on. Not sure what the latter is.

Im getting myself confused.

....Then "Coming Home" lights sounds like what I want to extend the amount of time on.

However, someone on another forum has suggested those 'stick-on one-hit LED light sticks' on the garage wall. I'd like my Coming Home lights to stay on longer anyway.

comming home lights is the function were you leave the light switch in auto position and it keeps the light on for x amount of time when you get out and lock the door
(if you dont want this to happen simply turn the light switch to off )

leaving home lights are simply activated when you unlock the car, this cannot be turned off even with the light switch left in off/non-auto position.

unless u have a vagcom i assume.

Yes, via the Highline (which you don't have), via VAGCOM, or the stealer can also do it.

And you set different times for each setting (ie the "unlock" lights can be set at a different time to the "lock and park up for the night" lights).

It can.  Just set the time to zero, via Highline/vagcom/VAS505*

i thought they were called 'follow me home' lights.  as thats what comes up on my range rover.

People always tell me to turn them off, i just say 'theyl go off' simple  or an even easier way is to just turn them off when you get out, like any older car

i thought they were called 'follow me home' lights.  as thats what comes up on my range rover.

I think different car makers call them slightly different things for essentially the same function.  In a similar vein to the electronic stability systems - VAG call it "Electronic Stability Programme", whereas BMW call it "Dynamic Stability Control", Vauxhall call it "ESPplus", and fcuk knows what tag Ford have given it these days.

People always tell me to turn them off, i just say 'theyl go off' simple  or an even easier way is to just turn them off when you get out, like any older car

I just give em a cocky clever quip - sommat like "it's a German car, German cars can do clever things, including turning off the lights" - that usually has them scurrying off into the undergrowth!

But yeah, if you aint got highline, then a mate with VAGCOM, or a trip to the stealers can permanently turn them off.
