Hello I am looking at an R32, any opinions or things worth considering. I used to have a mk2 Gti and have been heartbroken ever since it left. Thanks for any advice etc
-
Whats worth considering??
BUY ONE!!!!
dirt cheap now aswell
-
remember fuel is ment to go up in soon :
-
If you can afford the cost of petrol, and the nasty price of tax, then totally get one!! :afro:
-
remember this will prob be the last year EVER of sub-£1 petrol. After the recession, fuel will rocket back up to last years prices, and won't be coming back down again.
-
As said if you can afford to buy / run ect then There is nothing to think about
BUY ONE
-
Mk4 R32.... Maybe the best ever looking Golf?? Its def in my top 3 at least. As much as I like them, it would be a tough choice to make as you can get a Mk5 GTI for similar money, which is far nippier and would cost a lot less to own, and I don't just mean petrol - every unique R32 part will be £££. The R32 will prob attract more "trouble" e.g. risk of theft (it would definitely need a tracker system fitting IMO) too.
Even so... Corr!

The sound of that v6 is more than enough reason to buy one
-
there really is nothing to consider here!!
you cannot beat the sound of that v6
But as mentioned earlier theft risk, mines a replica r32, and two guys tried to throw me out of my car at traffic lights, after punching me through my open window 4 times
But id rather die than lose my car so i ran over the cnuts leg and drove off
He got caught by the cops last week and is due in court on the 10th feb

That sort of thing does'nt happen in Bognor though. Way too posh.... :undecided:
-
i have one of them extenable wheel braces from halfords in my door card to do up them loose wheel nuts  ......... ha hmmm coff coff
-
Thanks so far to all. Not too bothered about shelling out for the fuel if the drive is worth it. My old Mk2 did not do much better than a R32 would, depending on how much I booted it. Being honest cause you so would boot it when necessary. I went from my 1.8 16v which pulled like a monster to a small 5 door family car, I have no family so am still living in sorrow. Have found a good R32 and may be willing to break the bank for it much like I did for my old pride and joy. I just love VW.
-
yeah you will certainly turn heads in an r32, wow ive got a semi just thinking of owning one, its my
dream car and one day i will have to own one. but only the mk4 version i dont like the mk5 version it looks
too bland.
they do say that the mpg on them isnt too bad, if i bought one i would buy a bi-turbo kit for it, 600bhp

-
I spent a bt of time earlier looking at them on Autotrader, and getting insurance quotes.
Go compare? Go f*ck yourself more like! £1,300 fully comp on an R32? MY 1.8T is only £625, and it's hardly slow.
-
its not the speed that makes them high insurance, because to be honest there not that fast, they weigh 1500kg so they are hardly light, my 1.8t is running at 200bhp and that keeps up with them.
Its the risk factor, they are very wanted, and very known cars
-
A mk5 R32 has lower insurance!!
-
A mk5 R32 has lower insurance!!
& the mk5 is a quicker/better drive, too.
INS. is probably higher on the mk4 as it's more prone to theft.
-
I want one was behind one yesterday and he floored it and the noise from those exhausts
-
i fi had a chance i would, the look the dogs and as mention prob one of the best looking golfs! the sound is insaine the luxury to boot, and the fact its an R32, granted petrol will go back up but, its a r32 lol :)
-
I would get the MK4 R32 think it looks better than the MK5. Might have to get one when im settled in Oz if all goes to plan. Cheaper fuel aswell
-
Was just looking on AMD's website supercharger conversion for the R32 £6000 fitted 70bhp+ increase
-
Iv had wet dreams over a MK4 R32 :embarassed:

I understand mate we all gotta crack the whip sometimes.
Behave everybody including Gonadslad
-
I'd defo go for one. If/when the 1.8T needs replacing, I'll defo be considering one. Just a bit expensive for me right now.
Obviously all of the previous comments regarding running costs and security need to be considered, but if you have that covered, do it.
-
What do they get to the gallon? I really want one now.

glad to hear it - i bet he'd drive a MKV R32 though
-
This, will get messy.
-
Yes there is a gheyness threshold that the MK5 doesn't quite cross, makes it more appealing for all. Unlike diesels which are restricted to use by sheep bumming farmers. (Oh yes, i did just bring sheep into it! )

why is it that English people always mention sheep first? you must have more of a fascination than we do
-
its like the scots and their skirt wearing habits.. it just goes
my boss is from deep in the valleys so i have to make a sheep joke atleast once a week.. although i really shouldn't because you don't have to go back many generations to see my own welsh heritage :lipsrsealed:
-
oh yeah.. R32 = win.

7.5k
-
I've been having strange thoughts about chopping in the Meg for a newer golf  Got to run it by the missus and then see what MK she'd like. It'd have to be a V6. Any idea when the MK6 pics are out? Or when the car will be out?

too thirsty and uneconomical i'm guessing - smaller, forced induction engines are the future
-
MK6 GTI is expected later this year, autumn time I think. At first I was very disappointed as it was far to similar to the MK5 and was more of a MK5.5 than a MK6, but its grown on me lots.

Well I still want one

I like the idea of a MK6 3 door, a lot will be going for the 5 door or the scirocco, so should be a bit less common. As for the V6, surely if there is a market, they'll build one..
As for the OP - do it.
-

they've already said they won't.. F.I has won, biggest you might see is a 2.5 turbo (crossing fingers for that in a 4wd R format)
-
Is that a won't, or a won't, if you know what I mean? There's already a V6 in the TT, or do you think they'll just put one in the scirocco?
-
Out of interest.. What is different suspension wise on the R32 compared to the GTI? Very seriously considering a minter MK4 R32 instead of the Megane  Really not that struck with the look of the MK5.

stiffer springs (might be hearsay), uprated ARB's and obviously a different setup entirely on the rear being 4wd.

Better steering feel, & a quicker rack! ;)

I nearly traded my Golf in last year for a MK IV R32 but decided against it in the end, would defo still like to get one one day.

I do love a nice rack :smug:

I think my next car will be a Mk5 R32. I don't do many miles a year so the fuel side of things isn't an issue. The only thing that slightly puts me off is the tax band they want to put it in and for the same money or maybe a bit less now a Edition 30 is very tempting as it remappes to 270ish bhp.
I just think the R32 has more soul that the GTi due to that engine sound.
One thing I have found though is the Mk4 is a lot more to insure than a Mk5.
I say go for it if your in the market!!

I bought this in september...........
I've wanted one ever since i first saw one, I've had 2 mk4 tdi's and a mk2 gti 16v before it and none of them come close to the R32.
Prices now are really low so cant think of a better time to buy one, if you really want one then go for it you wont regret it!!!
I've done about 4k miles in mine so far and the fuel consumption has averaged at 25.5 mpg which is pretty good i think, thats a combination of motorway, town and a good few weekend blasts  .
-
I want I want I want. That looks damn sexy mate
-
if i could afford done i woudl buy one in a flash!!
-
It is my ultimate dream one day to have a MK4 R32 with Bi-Turbo's and a fully tuned and remapped engine.
I've seen one race an M3 on the internet. 0-60 in under 3 seconds.
I wish for that car SO much!
