Has anybody had the problem I am currently trying to get rid of. The gearbox works fine when cold and is a joy to use. But when the engine and gearbox are really hot its a different beast. It spits you off the mark however gentle you are with the right foot. Which is no big deal when going forward but very interesting when backing into tight spaces. Its almost impossible to creep the car line astern when in slow moving traffic. At 1200 rpm it goes into the kangaroo hop which is pretty unpleasant for other people in the car. When coming to a stop the gear box occaisionally hangs onto the gear and finally lets go with one hell of a lurch when you been stationary for a few seconds. Its disconcerting to find your self a foot closer to the chuff of the guy in front. The clutches feel really notchy and hard, all in all a really crap box. Its been in to the dealers twice and each time it's no code found. I am rapidly coming to the conclusion it will have to go as the techs do not seem able to find the fault. If any of you guys out there are having or have had this problem do tell
-
sounds a bit bad that. there is a known quirk whereby if you stop and put it in reverse too quickly it will lurch.
but yours sounds like a fault to me.
-
have the so called tech guys been out in it, just because no code is thrown up doesn't mean there is not a problem. ask to take a car for a test drive that has dsg and get them to compare it with yours. they wont be able to fob you off with the no code b*****x. good luck

Mechatronic valve is the problem, dealer visit and tis a known warranty fix.Is a very expensive part and might take a while to get one in the country and others have posted b4.
This Will fix your problem.

Deffo something you would want fixed under warranty. Has anyone who has got this issue fixed outwith warranty been offerred any good will payment/ contribution by VW? This may be a good reason for my next golf, hopefully an R32, to be manual...kacking my pants if my dsg breaks :-(
-
Funny you should mention manual R32's as I've seen a few of those with knackered clutches! :lipsrsealed:
I had a funny one the other morning - it was extremely cold (I reckon the coldest it's ever been for a long time) and car hadn't been used for about a week, gets in and starts up, about a second after engine started the whole bloody car jumps forward about 2 inch! Yes it was in park too... :undecided:
-
The clutch went in my manual R32 about 3 months ago. It was totally worn. Weak clutch a known weak point in the MKV. Lucky enough I am still under warranty.
-
Nackered clutch = wife/gf stealing the keys at night and going joy riding
-
How much is a new manual clutch on the r32? The mechatronics failure runs into £1500-£2000

Does anyone know what causes the Mechatronic valve to fail? Is there any maintenance work which can help protect it or does it fail due to misuse? I'm out of warranty so very keen to look after my DSG .....

You probably need to talk to Vw's technical investigation department in Wolfsburg. If you ever get past the stage where they admit there is a problem with some units. Field failures of all parts are statistically expected I guess, only really becomes a problem when the cost is so high to fix. Best thing we can do is to ensure that maintenance regimes are followed religiously. There are plenty of high mileage dsg's even high mileage remapped dsg's that have never had an issue.
Check out the tt forum and tyresmoke, there was a lot of discussions about dsg failures there, you know these clued up litigious Americans.....

Hi,
know issue particually affects early versions of the car but not always, fault manifests itself as lurching away from junctions when hot or pulling up after long run or long peroids in traffic, also when reversing (not nice). fault caused by mechatronic module and soleniod controlling first gear (it sticks and ignores command from E.C.U ) it wont show up of V.A.G. com !!
service history or changing the oil more frequently does not have an effect on whether this will happen to your car.
keep on at your dealer and do not take no for an answer.

Sorry, but I can't agree with that at all - certainly not as a 1st point of diagnostics. Your above answer is just a "shoot from the hip and hope" kind of post which doesn't really help, and can actually cause expensive and un-necessary repairs.
What we really need to know is how old is the car, how many miles has it done, has it had a remap or any other mods to the engine, has it had the routine DSG service, and the most fundamental question of all - how is the car actually driven. Oh, and does it have any open fog lamp grilles
Then, depending on the above answers, I would recommend making sure the stealer has flashed the DSG ECU, and the engine ECU with the latest releases of software. I would also ask that some live datalogging be done, particularly on the DSG oil temperatures, as I reckon the oil level might be too low, causing the oil to overheat, which is causing the rough shifts when the car is hot (but is fine when it is cold).
