Hi,
I have just purcahsed a tomtom which charges through the cigarette lighter. I want to have the tomtom cradle and the RDS traffic receiver fitted at the bottom right hand side of my windscreen, so that it is out of the way but still visable. The problem is when the power cable is connected to the tomtom the power cable wire dangling looks a mess
I wondered if anyone had routed the tomtom power cable through the dashboard or maybe have a better solution?

Yes I have routed mine from the cig lighter under and around so it comes up between the dash and the door pillar. There is enough of the lead left over so it can be extended/ retracted back into the dash when needed. Works really well.

Hi player.777,
Have you got any pics or any information on how you did it?
-
i'm assuming he has routed under the steering wheel
to do this you need to remove the trim - start by removing the fuse panel and cover on the drivers side of the dash (open the door)
then remove 2 x Torx 10 screws and then pull the trim out and away
then remove 5/7 other screws to allow you to remove thre trim behind that giving you plenty of room
here's a pic of under the steering wheel

to remove the ashtray pull out the bit in the ashtray to reveal a screw and remove that
now grab inside the ashtray and pull up towards you - don't pull to hard as you have to disconnect the plug for the lighter behind
you might have to remove the headunit too - not 100% sure but removing the above should allow enough room to route the cable upto your location

Thanks for the pics and the info Rhyso

That all looks far too 'wire-y' for me!! I didnt remove anything, unscrew anything or move anything- I'm no Rhyso!!. It can be put behind the dash without doing it, but could be more 'half-hearted' I suppose.

How can it be put behind the dash player.777?

I'm off work tomorrow mate so I'll go take some photos in the morning and PM them over to you if you like.

i've got a tomtom with the RDS remote and the hands free mic
i have mine to the right hand side of the cockpit, the wire for the mic, is tucked inside the linning of the A pillar and the mic is clipped to the drivers side grab handle.
the RDS wire runs across the bottom of the windscreen with the slack, tucked down the dash.
I only use mine on battery, as the journeys i do are shorter than the battery life, and if i'm going further i can just use the power cable, if you want to hard wire it, i'd suggest that you run the wire through the fuse box eg between the fuse box cover and the door
this link might be of help

Thanks for the reply. Does the RDS go the complete length of the windscreen? Whats the reception like with the RDS when its along the bottom of the windscreen? I had thought about doing this and I think this is only the position I havent tried it in. Up to now, trying to hide the RDS down the side of the windscreen has meant that the reception is rubbish and although I dont lose the signal there is a difference.

I have my sat nav on the middle of the windscreen, near the bottom.
-
i'm a man and can use a bog standard road atlas
-
I used to use an Atlas, but they're sh!t for finding a specific road in the middle of a city.

thats what route planners and road signs are for

Meh!
Ironically my satnav has a woman's voice, and it always sends me in the wrong direction!
