Golf mk8 / Speaker replacement

Hi all

I have a crackling/popping speaker in my Golf. It has been in to be checked and they have informed me it is a faulty speaker in the dash. I have checked the Volkswizard youtube video and the problem he describes at 11mins 8secs is exactly what I have, however mine does not show any fault or warning on the dash.

I have explained all this to the Service Advisor at VW and he insists it is faulty and needs replacing.

My concern is they remove the whole dash to replace the speaker (I have no confidence in their ability to put it back together properly). They have told me they dont need to do this but I am not sure, and if I am honest I don't believe him (as you can tell I don't have good experiences of this dealer).

Does anyone have any experience of speaker removal on the golf?

I’ve seen one other Clubsport on the road.
I’ve seen one R on the road but it was literally around the corner from a big VW dealership so might have been on test drive as it was launch spec (standard wheels but had a sunroof).
I’ve also seen a handful of GTI’s but more surprisingly given the demonisation of Diesel is that I've seen a few more GTD’s than either. I thought company car drivers were all in either petrols or Teslas these days, obviously not the case.

I’ve seen very few mk8’s in general but I’m not surprised really. In standard form it’s an ugly car with lots of unhappy angles and styling (to achieve the aero figures?)
I see far more ID’s around and I suppose that reflects the blanket marketing of electric cars from all marques and general brainwashing going on over the last few years. If faced with a choice of non Performance Golf or ID then my choice wouldn’t be the Golf either.

Thanks for posting up, I just watched that whilst having my sparse lunch.
I very much doubt they actually weighed the cars physically, so maybe took the published weight of the lightest version available - manuals in the case of the GTI and D? (despite actually testing three DSG’s to even it up)
Mat Watson’s ego must be worth at least 200 kilos? Only joking! I quite like him really.

I didn’t realise the Clubsport was heavier then the regular GTI, how’s that happened, surely it should be at least the same and really should be lighter

Bigger turbo, bigger brakes, extra body work... probably all adds up. If they had put "clubsport" on the boot and not "GTI" then it would have been even heavier  :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

Well it's that time of year again.  LV who used to be fairly mod friendly have upped my quote to over £600... however, Esure who didn't use to be mod friendly have covered me for £430 including business use and euro cover and a lower excess.  Fairly happy with that.

So just over a month ago I topped up about 0.5L oil as it was less than halfway on the dipstick. Few days ago I checked again and the level is just below halfway again. Had the car checked over by an indy and they have come back with a £270 quote to replace the breather pipe and intake rubber pipe. Seems excessive? They also mentioned the engine will require a steam clean after and then rechecked to see if the oil leak has gone. I’ve attached a photo I managed to get while the car was on the ramps. I don’t think it’s a turbo leak and the garage agree on that.
