Golf mk7 / Re: Clubsport S - 18 Inch Wheel Advice

Wheels have arrived and very happy with them - looks and quality wise. Plus they are 18.5kg versus 20.5kg for my 19" prets and PS4S. Saving 2kg a corner. And the spigot ring is billet aluminium with locking wire - good quality. I am going to smear lightly in lithium grease rather than copper anti-seize (which will induce galvanic corrosion). Wheelbase were great to deal with too.
Excuse the fireside rug...

I really like them: they look very OEM+ and they’re not diamond cut which would be a big plus in my book.

They’ll also be easy to clean, and access to the backs of the spokes and wheel barrels is good too for cleaning those parts that often get overlooked by some owners.

Golf mk8 / Re: 8.5 Coding now available in OBD11 & Carista.

So where do we stand today then?

It seems that OBD11 has a 200 credit app to turn off the speed warning.

And Carista has the option to turn off lane departure. Carlos has managed to get that to work at least.

I have an ODB11 'firstGen', the white one, so I need a newer dongle of some sort and the fact that one dongle seems to be able to do one of the functions, and the other can do another is a bit annoying!

It certainly does, even if you do your own (I do) rather than use the services of a professional detailer. I dread to think how much I’ve spent on detailing products over the years!

There was recently a sale online on the brand I'm using right now and my immediate thought after spending 150+ was "wow, look how much money I saved!"

Right now I'm trying to convince myself I don't need a bigboi dryer for the car

lol, it's oyster silver, not crystal ice blue

I actually own a CIBM car and flicking through the pics thought it was ice blue too! Looks great. And to be fair if the coating is any good, then it seems to have been a good value service. Detailing gets expensive quick.

Golf mk8 / Re: Have you ordered an 8.5 ?
« Last post by seanaodh on Today at 12:30 »
Hi All,

I ordered a car end of may which has been scheduled for build 02/07. Been 7 years since I bought and just wondering there is any way to track it through the build like the old online web page?
Or is it all via email these days?

The car is pure white Clubsport with DCC and queenstown alloys.

VW no longer have an online tracker, so I’m assuming customers are reliant on updates from their dealer.

If you set up your car online through the VW connect portal, you can actually see some updates. You need the VIN though so it needs to have hit manufacturing.
Up to that I got all updates direct from the salesperson, and even after that, he was able to give me more detail than I got off the website.

Golf mk8 / Re: Tyres

It's much of a muchness between all the premium tyres in my experience.

I've run P Zeros, SC7 and PS4 on my MK7. I believe the P Zeros were the 4 since the 5 is pretty new.

P Zeros lasted a very long time and I've heard that from others too, they seem to have great longetivity. Some also love their profile as they seem to provide a slight bit more rim protection than others.

PS4 and SC7 I thought were both good in terms of grip and relatively similar in terms of longevity but a little less than P Zeros.

You can't go too far wrong with any of those. Most recently, Conti has been winning the tyre tests I've seen onine and so if I was buying now I'd go for either SC7 or P Zeros, but if PS4s happened to be cheaper, I'd happily go for them too. The PS4s have been around for a long time at this stage, so maybe the others are a bit better than them at this stage. Not sure how the PS5s compare.

Golf mk8 / Tyres

1 slow puncture, 2 low treads and a trip to Europe means i could change all 4 tyres. If it was 1 or 2 then I would stick with what I have currently on the car - Bridgestone Potenza SOO5. Whilst at Goodwood on the weekend it looked like virtually every car was wearing some form of Michelins. They are all within £60ish of each other so putting price aside hopefully the vote will give me some idea to what members are running / going to go for....

Had my car detailed today with what was called the:

Bronze Plus: Ceramic package with a 2 year protection coating applied and the treatment consisted of:-
Full Exterior Safe wash
Full Decontamination (iron fallout)
Clay Bar to Bodywork
Plush towel dried
Single stage machine gloss enhancement
All bodywork wiped and prepped for coating
2 year protection Ceramic coating applied (Infinity Wax Synergy 2).

I am very pleased with the results.

You should be pleased - it looks great Mark; super glossy and shiny. I love the GTI in Crystal Ice Blue .

I’ll be interested to hear what the long term durability of Infinity Wax Synergy 2 is like and how it’s holding up after 12-18 months (and longer).

lol, it's oyster silver, not crystal ice blue

Whatever the colour, it still looks great - IMHO much nicer than many of the darker, gloomy colours in VW’s colour palette.
