Thanks, looks like a trip to Halfords tomorrow before I go to the Dealers to be relieved of sixty phukin quid for the new and elusive iphone5 to mdi cable.
first its 35 tax now its apple tax...merry mksixmas to all

£60 for the MDI lightning cable   think I'll stick with using my adaptor.

Think I will stick with my iPhone 4 to 5 adaptor also...

Not that I use it much, thats why you have Bluetooth.

Charging I guess...

I always connect using the MDI cable with an iPod/iPhone. I find that using Bluetooth via BT audio, doesn't give the full control over music selections as the MDI cable connection does.

Went to get a quote for Bluetooth to be fitted to my RNS510 by VW, wanting over £550! think its gonna be an ebay jobby as I only really want it for hands free function.

It narrowly missed disaster, when loads of coping tiles blew off next door's roof in the early hours.  Fortunately I had the foresight to park it further down the driveway last night, which saved it by a few feet.  Phew!

got to love VW, you can pick up the kit for about £200-£230 on ebay or through Eddie-NL on mk5golfgti, in terms of fitting a friend of mine who has OCD on wiring and protection of cables put mine in and it cost me about £50 if that

I wouldn't have thought that VW would offer to fit it. According to my local dealers, it can't be done as each car has it's own specific wiring loom and there are no official VW retro fit looms. The aftermarket kits that many of us have fitted use a third party piggy back loom that plugs between the radio and the cars harness, therefore it wouldn't carry a VW warranty.

I asked the question about fitting a rear camara to my Passat recently. The dealer said it couldn't be done. When I asked why, as surely all the parts should be available. They told me that as it is not an approved accessory and the coding is done remotely via VW HQ, any requests from the dealer for activation of non factory fitted items will not be given.

I think that they are missing a trick here. You can tick all the option boxes you like when ordering a new car, but when you buy a nearly new one, you have to take what's going. Surely they could make more money by offering Approved Used customers the option of specing their cars up too?

Sorry should have said that my local VW dealer isn't a proper dealer if that makes sense, they call themselves a specialist independent volkswagen sales and service centre. He said they would buy a loom (prob an aftermarket one if VW wont provide it) and buy the Bluetooth module from VW and that's the bit that cost over £400
