Ok time for another update if anyone is reading
Sent the welder to get fixed on the weekend (came back today)
So while that was gone I decided to start striping the cupra r hubs ready for new bearings and a lick of paint.
Did the usual pushed the centre out....
and of course the inner race of the bearing went with it
..... on both!
So anyway set about getting it off so whipped the grinder out! And cut as close as i dared to the shaft
I removed the inner races and then tried removing the rest of the bearing and failed miserably haha so my dad took it to work with him and used the hydro press ... took a full 10tonne!
so no wonder i couldnt getting it out with a hammer, socket and vice
My dad also took the agu rocker cover with him to sandblast as it was in a sorry state
Me and my mate (rylarr off here) then set about stripping the engine to find what was wrong with it
When i originally bought the car the seller wasn't very specific he just said there was some sort of engine damage due to a shortage of oil......What he did say that i didn't acknowledge/forgot about was that it did start but would need trailering......so
we removed the sump and i checked the bigends and the main bearings which were completely spotless with no wear
sump off
I also checked the bores with a torch and there were no marks or ridges. nice and smooth
we then had the rocker cover off and checked the cams were again were completely fine with not much wear
(only got one photo
)
ryan removing the rocker cover
So the conclusion was there is no engine damage which i when i actually rethought about what the seller had said (starts etc) and realised i was thinking in the wrong area......so we started to remove the turbo
we managed to get the turbo out
and found this
http://youtu.be/C6xfI71HBekSo this is where i stood as the start of another day
Agu head with SB rocker cover
Cupra r hubs with bearing removed
The car with its thinking face
the the turbo was out i removed the downpipe so i could remove the shifter that i have been waiting to remove for a while ha
The next day I felt like starting another little job before going back outside so i decided i would modify my door card.
i had to remove it due to it not allowing the door to close with the cage in sooooo i took a few measurements and started chopping
Before
Peeled back the foam/fabric
Measured/marked and cut
]
I then cut another line (forgot to take a photo) about 75mm to remove a section
I then used small cable ties to stitch the two pieces back together
And then used some tiger seal to smooth it out
I then left that dry and set about putting the spare turbo i had onto the car so I could test fire it!
I didnt get any pics putting the turbo back as i was alone and its a simple process haha but here we are afterwards
Just needing some oil and a start.
So today was D-day
I filled the car with oil and went to start it......Only to find the immobiliser was activated!!
Although the car did start straight away (then cut out due to IMMO) and it sounded good.
But i didnt know where to start with the immo so did some reaserch and tried a few things like checking the plugs on the clocks discharging the circuit from battery etc etc eventually what worked was leaving the battery on charge while connected to the car and leaving the ignition on for about 45 min and the immo light stopped flashing
so started her up and it seemed ok
no knocking etc but as i had expected as soon as i touched the revs there was low oil pressure so i shut her off.
the pick up pipe was a bit dirty when i dropped the sump but i cleaned it out so im thinking it may be the oil pump so gonna have to get it switch as the next job
I left it at that and decided to finish my door card
The new shortened door card with the fabric stuck back on using fabric spray adhesive
And the excess cut (Not the neatest but its strong stuff!
)
I then set about gluing it back into the door card with some assistance from the missus
I think it looks pretty tidy for a bodge job
I then got it installed back into the car and it fits mm perfect
It still touches but only ever so slightly with no actual pressure
Thats it for now next jobs are change the oil pump in the engine and also the welder came back so finish the feet for the cage, do the shifter frame and also the seat mounts
