Update on the rear subframe harmonic damper that I had fitted around 10 days ago.

Today my OH and I had a day out in the South Downs, about an hour's drive each way. Part of the drive is on the Surrey stretch of the M25 which is concrete and very noisy. Not so much any more! Normally it is so noisy it makes talking between us a little difficult as the road roar and thumps from the expansion joints is overwhelming. With the damper fitted though it's like being in a different car. The noise is still there but so subdued that we can talk normally and don't have to have the radio on so loud. The only disadvantage is that we can talk to each other.....

Whilst I can't guarantee what others might find but for me, it's made such a big difference, far more than I expected, really pleased with it

Happy days you can't argue with that, for such a cheap mod!

Unfortunately I pulled the price at £80 for the set but I had been watching them for 16 months in my basket as I didn't want to pay the full £140 again like my GTD, but at least it's only a fiver!

I'm glad you found the mod to reduce the amount/volume of the noise from the rear of the car....!!..

I'm sorry that you now have to talk to your OH!!... Unfortunately I don't offer refunds for that!!...& a solution that I might offer could get me into trouble!!!.

Cheers golfdave!

Fortunately she finds the crap on her phone far more interesting than me so it's not much of an issue

Would this help reduce the noise coming from my empty boot and large space by the space wheel? I've always thought this must be a resonating space which amplifies any road noise.

Put a NVH mat down under your boot floor eg https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/dodo-sound-stopper-pro-v2

There are several causes of noise from the rear of the car (besides passengers.....)

Noise vibrating in the rear subframe & transmitted into the bodywork from the suspension = harmonic damper
https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/how-to-retro-fit-the-rear-subframe-harmonic-damper-from-the-audi-a3-saloon-2013.369369/

Wind turbulence noise from the lower arms = MK8 Golf lower rear arm aero covers
https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/how-to-retro-fit-the-mk8-rear-suspension-aero-covers-or-stone-guards-to-a-mk7-golf.375175/

Wind turbulence noise from the void around the exhaust/rear subframe & behind the fuel tank = MK5/6 or MK8 short axle cover.
https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/how-to-retro-fit-skid-trays-aerodynamic-under-trays-stone-guards-to-a-mk7-golf.320687/#post-6659749

Wind noise from the rear passenger side exhaust void = rear exhaust tunnel cover
https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/how-to-retro-fit-skid-trays-aerodynamic-under-trays-stone-guards-to-a-mk7-golf.320687/#post-6659748

Then there is the noise from the bodywork vibrating..& that really requires fitting  bitumen self adhesive pads to the middle 1/2 of each section of bodywork to damper out the vibrations, much like a drummer places their hand on the drum skin to deaden the sound...
