smoothed handles
« on: 09 June 2004, 11:57 »
I'm gonna try and replace my original mk1 handles with some smoothed 1's but i have no idea on how to get the mechanisim working.
Has any1 done this before and if so how easy is it?

i think you can buy kits for the central locking - most people go with audi handles, i bought these doors for my cab but have yet to find out about the locking yet myself.

i think dizzie has done the conversion and martz also has these same handles - hopefully one of those 2 will see this thread and help us out  ;) :D

once the actually handle is smoothed onto the door you need to make up a peice to link to the latch on the door. the way Vix's are done is using a rod with a welded blob on it. there's then a hole drilled in the lever on the latch with the rod running through it so it won't pop out. the blob of weld then pushes the level down and opens the door. the mech isn't as good as the original, but it works.

i think it cost me ?200 all in when i had my last car done, should be no problem getting it to work off your clifford alarm as they have extra function buttons for things like this.

This has got to be my favorite mod that i did to my old car (spent about 8k on it, had a mag feature). you wont regret it if you have it done.
