clocks making odd noise!

I am slowely getting through all the nigily points on my new dub.

5 out of 10 times when I strat the car the dash spedo etc makes a stange wooring sound and the needles seem to stick then jump! Is this down to the cables in the back being fitted incorectly or loose? I don't want to take it all apart before anyone has any other ideas :0

i had a speedo cable that kept coming loose. made a terrible "wooring noise" its worth taking the dash apart just to check if its that just to stop the noise! and if its not that then it might shed some light on another problem. Could just need a shot of WD40 on the mechanism to lube it up a bit!

sounds like the cable to the speedo is loose, doesnt take long to remove clocks, just make sure you undo all the screws.

Does the whole dash have to come off for this? I have never done this before! Also anything to look out for like stuff I could snapo by pushing or pulling the wrong way?

Yea all the plastic bit that surrounds the clocks, stereo, heater controls and switches needs to come out. Its a hell of a lot easier to do this if u take the steering wheel off too!

I would start by taking the steering wheel off, the removing the stereo all the switches and the heater controlls. with the heater control take out the sliders and the fan speed controller first the u should be albe to prise the rest off. the fan speed controller may or may not fall off if it doesnt just unclip it. then u need to start unscrewing the panel. there are two screws above the dials and a thurther two behind the switches either side of the dials along the bottom. then i think there is three more behind the heaters and one or maybe two behind the stereo. anyway they all need to come out. the whole panel should then come off. leaving you with loads of wires and ur dials!

the dials are a bt fiddley to connect / disconnect i find. if u want to take them right out then lean then forwards (they should pivot from the bottom i think??) then disconnect the speedo cable (will either have a connector or may just fall out) and the hose that does the MPG on the mfa. then there is just the two or one (depending on the cars age) connector at the bottom to disconnect. becarefull on these mine where well on and when i pulled it off most of the PCB came off too!

Ok, At this moment I have the clocks sort of out, They can not come all out because there are cables attached at the back stopping it, I have uncliped the wire connectors - bottom right, but the white plastic connector seems to be stopping it from coming out.

How do i disconnect this?

Also which part do I check to spray the WD40 into?

Finally go it out  (it was in all the way) sprayed wd40 into the mechanism and put it all back, I have not tested it yet as it's late and I have had a few bevvies

I did test the rev counter and that is still sticking, I am guessing that this is due to inside the clocks! I think I'll just leave that

So far so good, the clocks seem fine now (Thank god after taking all that out)

The actual needles on the odometer and rev counter are still jumpy though, the rev counter seems to jump to each 1000 revs i.e jumps from 1000 to 2000 to 3000 etc and misses all in between.  The odometer is always wiggling wherever it goes, but does work!

Is there anything I can do for this?

The 'wobbly speedo syndrome' is usually caused by a knackered speedo cable, its the inner cable catching and so wobbles.  You can fix it sometimes by spraying generous ammounts of WD down it, but normall you have to replace it.

I made mine a bit better by re-routing it in the engine bay, I took off the air box and cable tied it to the back of the engine bay at the top, next to the coil.  It now only wobbles up to 15ish mph then after that its OK, I need to replace it really but I can't be bothered
