PAS not very well......
« on: 03 November 2008, 18:26 »
Need some advice....

Lost oil and loss of PAS with a horrible noise.

Garage have told me that a hose / pipe has worn and a new one is around £150 and seemly difficult to fit.

Something to do with hydraulic return and used on agricultural equipment.......

Can anyone please advise, either where I can down load a diagram or if what they are saying sounds ok??

Many thanks

I'm intrigued mr. filthy..

How much are your rack and pump refurbishments for Mk2 rack/ Mk3 pumps..? I've had an offer locally form a reputable guy for £80..?

The pump I'm no sure about admitted but the rack is going to get done. And I can't get the hose out of my rack with the 18mm union on, the high pressure feed from the pump..
Sig Removed. No Longer Applicable. New Sig? Nah. Not Yet..

Hey chap, is the £80 for the pump or the rack? 80 for the pump is the going rate, the rack would be 100 to recon

The stuck nut is a very common problem, you can always cut the nut off, remove the pipe, then get some grips on it, should come out then....as soon as my engineer gets his finger out of his special place and makes my new batch of 18mm nuts I can make you a new one up!

plus once you chop pipe off you can get a socket on it, though 18mm isnt a common size.  I picked one up on my travells somehow!

you can swap the pipes with the engine in place but it is a right sod to do, be extra, extra carefull when you refit it as its not hard to cross-thread the fitting!

I wrote a simplish guide here.

As rubjonny said - its very easy to crossthread the fitting. After many months of driving with PAS - I'm in love, but I did cross thread the pipe - so it leaks a tiny bit out this fitting. Its an arse to get to though with the engine in. Best tactic if you don't want to remove the rear subframe is to take off the drivers wheel, get the car on axel stands at full height and you can just about get to the pipes - but there isn't enough room to swing the spanner all the way round - so you have to be patient.

ah the number of hours I've wasted doing a nut up with 1cm of swing on a spanner, cursing the fact I have no ratchet spanners
