Buying a New Golf Plus from a stealer!
« on: 24 October 2008, 21:56 »
Ok, so it's not for me but the father in law. We were looking and discussing the SE 1.4 TSi DSG model (turbo and supercharged) and the chap reckons the most he could take of is £500. He said no more can be taken of as VW have given this allowence to all UK dealers. Has cash as the car/s were between £17k and £22k. How much do you reckon they can go down too as they seem they don't want to do any discounts and not want to shift cars?

Try another few dealers until you find one who is keen to do business.

Maybe leave it until next week - before the end of the month - there may be some people keen to shift some metal before they close the month.

Ask if it's just because the model you're after is in high demand maybe (wouldn't have thought so though).

Given that car sales are massively in the sh!tter at the moment it's odd that they're not trying any harder.  Typical idle car salespeople.

Car supermarket instead maybe?  Why does it have to be a main dealer?

Just look in the Golf5 section for some other stories about woeful residuals and dealer experiences.  I think if you can let them stew for another couple of months you might find them a bit keener..... although wear chainmail gloves when handing over any cash - this should avoid you getting your hands bitten off.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Cheers for the reply mate. I can't believe that they won't try harder. Was more or less saying get the price down and we will take it there and then. New cars can't be selling to well (I certainly know Fords and Vauxhalls aren't) as they are sitting around in various storage sites!  He said the models we were looking at will be sold by next week and won't be available again until June next year (bulls'hit, typical sales tatic).

Anyway, will have a chat with a few more tomorrow I think as you suggested. Do carsupermarkets offer new cars then? I thought they were all seconds.

Some of them offer pre-registered cars, or vehicles imported from mainland Europe.

Sounds like some proper sales BS you've encountered there.  Ask to speak to a real person next time.

Dealers are playing hardball atm, they're acting like nothings wrong and people are buying cars all day long, they aint! like DH said, if they aint giving you discount, get 3 dealers, ask best cash price, have a round robin an see who ends up lowest. I reckon a Golf plus you can get £1200 off list easy at the moment. I'd be happy to get a deal done for you if you send me desired spec (its what i do in my spare time!) Failing that, buy a Seat Altea!
Skoda Octavia VRS DSG (soon!)
Skoda Rapid Spaceback

My thoughts are whenever the dealer/salesman won't take money off, you walk away. If they don't want your money, someone else will. The ones that want your cash are usually more polite, too.

Keeping schtum. Mostly.

If you have no luck PM me the details too and I'll see what I can do (Im a Fleet Manager and buy ALOT of VW's)

The Golf Plus has never sold as well as VW had hoped so what the stealer is telling you is Bollox! There was a deal around 18 months ago that was giving nearly 20% off so if your dealing in cash i'd have thought they should be biting your arms off!

Cheers

I would tell 'em to stuff it and ring around many other dealers as possible. People may have a pre registered or cancelled order sitting around they'll let go for cheaper.
