gti 8v wont start

hi,

Have been trying to sell my mk3 gti 8v for a couple of months due to buying a VR6.

The car has been sitting unused for a couple of months so when went to start today it was dead so changed the battery and away it goes did a couple of miles and switched it off and now it wont start.

There is no spark and the battery is good and also alarm is not stopping it.  is it the ECU or coil which is likely does anyone have any ideas.

Might be a problem with the immobiliser .

You may need to get it diag checked .

could be coil... was there a slight burning smell?

i'm unsure as to how to check that.


does the starter still attempt to turn over ok now its conked out? (it should..)

if you can bump start it, its the starter, otherwise its likely to be the coil. (both went on mine recently within days of each other)

if it appears to be the starter before getting a new one check the connections to it are ok. i've had that prob too.

yeah i think the coil too , my gti 8v did it about 4 weeks ago, started great everytime then just wouldnt start all of a sudden , its common with these cars appertly ..they just go ....i got another from the scrappy for ?20 ........

easy to fit , just two bolts ......

but check all other little bits as the air intakes get full of crap and the rotor arms stop working ...
