....
I had no plans to mod my GTI until it arrived and I immediately found I was dissatisfied with the over-soundproofed cabin - I had a straight-six BMW with a great exhaust sound as standard and consider hearing the engine of any vehicle I drive as a real driving aid.
I didn't discover this site until fairly recently but found Tyresmoke while waiting for my GTI delivery and met a few of the R32 guys who were more into modding. There's no doubt that modding ideas get networked and encouraged if you frequent an enthusiasts community like this one. Driving a few modded GTI's didn't help either!
The fact is that, excellent as the stock GTI is, individualising it and improving what's already there is very satisfying if you enjoy spirited driving when the conditions are safe and appropriate.
The shared knowledge and help on such a site as this is invaluable in getting things right.
Future mods? - I've given up saying none but have no idea what's next, if any. My suspension actually needs revision. I want to keep my Mk5 GTI and so won't push that performance envelope too much.
It is a very slippery slope!
