Warm the oil up before you change it* - It comes out quicker, then.

*Obviously, don't get it red hot or you may burn yourself!!

Hi all im getting ready to do an oil change hopefully tomorrow,i have a golf mk4 1998 1.4 16v.When i go under the car to drain the oil does anyone know the exact tool i need to remove the slump or whatever its called,i dont have many tools so i will need to borrow the tool not sure what i need to take the slump out, alan key or socket.Thanx in advance.

Sump plug is 19mm socket on the 1.8T yours shoud be the same :afro:

Thanx mate, once i take it out the oil will come out right? sorry for stupid question im new at this can u tell? lol

lol no probs yeah undo the sump plug then all the oil will drain off. Next remove the oil filter.
When you replace the oil filter you need to put some oil around the rubber seal on the new filter. Do it up hand tight.

Replace the sump plug.  (get a new one only £1.20 from vw)

Refill with a good oil like castrol magnatec

I bought some wynn's engine flush too do i need a new sump plug? ive noticed that i can put a socket to the oil filter which will help to take it off.

You dont have to fit a new sump plug but you should.

I wouldnt use engine flush, just my opinion tho.

You can buy a tool to remove the oil filter about £5 .

Can you just put a socket to the end of the oil filter? looks like a socket would fit but could be wrong

Dont think so tho yours will be a bit different to mine  :undecided:

The filter just twists off, but it's easier to undo with those filter wrenches.  Only put the new one back on hand tight, though.  (Before you do, smear a thin layer of oil around the new filter - it helps get the seal.
