Just bought some brake hoses (front) for my 16v.
They didn't have the female to female so I got the female to male hoses.

Problem is that they don't screw all the way into the caliper.
I think the thread is too long and there is still a gap between the nut and the caliper with
a small amount of thread showing (maybe 2-3mm).
Is this an mot failure?

hey buddy,

              mines done the same thing when i changed mine. Apparantly it should be like this. It basically means you're getting a metal to metal seal at the bottom of the fitting, so you should see a slight gap.

did you leave the short length of hard line on? if so this should be ok as said.  On mine I got the bog std hose set and binned the wee length of metal hose fitted to the calipers.

Yeah I got rid of the hard metal hose.
Wonder why they put it on the 16v?
Just as long as it won't fail an mot and is not dangerous.

Looked wierd as im sure my 8v the nut part was flush to the caliper.

Also the bleed nipples GSF have are 7mm or something small and the thread was too small.
Where can I get and 11mm replacement?

hmm that doesnt sound right then, isnt there a copper washer on the end to seal it? its been a while since i did mine so i might be talking out my rear!

theres an ebay seller who does the nipples, plus VAG do em reasonably cheap, plus they come with a new rubber cap.

tbh with you mate

mine is a 8v gti so haven't really got a short length of hard pipe except the one that goes into the wheel arch.

I just connected the flexi hose to the hard line at the bracket on the wheel arch. Then to the caliper, but as you said there was a slight gap. As long as the fitting that goes into the caliper has a slightly chamferred edge then it'll be the metal to metal seal.

Don't see why this would be an M.O.T. failure? Unless the lines are fouling on some other peice of the car?

it will either be tapperd, or seal agaisnt the bottom of the thread. as long as its not leaking then there is no problem  :smiley:

Thanks, Yeah pretty sure its grounding against the bottom.
Going to use the easy bleed kit to test the pressure as they suggest!
