I personally think its funny especially as it winds Newgolf up so much, but imho i think it should just be a normal thread not a sticky. For me seeing as a sticky makes it seem like the majority of people on here do lots of racing.
But i also agree with Joe the least rules in here the more variety you get. Just my 2 peneth.  :undecided:

TC it doesn't wind me up mate, I just feel that its not in the "VW Spirit" if you know what I mean. Watch this advert and hopefully you will understand.

It's all a bit schoolboy boasting, and you should read what the other forums think about it...

One way you could analyse it is like this. (Only) Some of you guys sound like you are saying - "I have a car thats highly modified, very light and has a better power to weight ratio than yours. Big turbo and 2 WD. I'll pull up along side you and hammer the cr@p outta my car and leave you behind (hopefully, unless you come across the likes of a P1 Subaru  ) then post that my cars faster and better than your car. It all sounds a little overly boastful to the point of becoming childish. "Mines bigger/better/faster than yours naa naa naa"

The other way you could look at it is like this. I, and some of the guys that you post you've "beaten", don't want to hammer their car driving to or from work, nor get points on their license or banned as they may need it for their jobs, family etc. They could also be like me and lost a very close friend in a high speed crash and not want to risk it. (An ex GF of mine, aged 18 died in a terrible car crash, driving far to fast in the wet). These guys with an RS4 etc can easily afford an ED30, stick a wopping great turbo on it plus extras and "Muller" yours if they wanted to, why don't they, because they dont feel the need to I suppose. If I had some "dude" come up behind me and drive like a loonie right up my rear bumper (getting lots of stone chips all over his car, by the way) then overtake me like a tw@t, I'd let him get ahead as far as possible. Chances are you'll see him on one of those Police car shows someday. Hopefully not.

I know exactly what you mean, this is in the same spirit

I'm guilty of 'testing' my cars abilitys against others from time to time but I'm also well aware that for the money I spent on it I could have bought a much more powerful car.  Certainly its fast but there are many other cars on the road that will give the GTI a bloody nose but thats not what I bought it for.  It is that understated image I like about VW's and that is probably a reflection of my own personality so driving like a hooligan doesn't really appeal to me (but I do like to surprise people occasionally ).

That said I don't think the thread does anyone any harm (touch wood) but I agree its not in the spirit of VW!

Have to remember people that the golf gti is a hot hatch... so without doubt that puts it in a category of cars that most people buy because they want performance as well as practicality!

Unfortunately you cant measure practicality but performance you can.. and that seems to be the way people say their taste or car is better than some elses!

Its a fact... you just have to learn to ignor them (or give them an a$$ whooping they wont forget )
