Coil packs where the devils work on the MK4, I think every MK4 owner has had the coil packs throw in the towl. Glad VW learnt from their mistakes lol 

Indeed they were!  Didn't think I'd have to carry a couple of spare ones for the mk5    Engine cover isn't as easy to take of on this one either!

hi anyone else had a coil pack let go.

Not yet on the Golf or the RS, <fx/on> searches for wood to fondle  <fx/off> but I did have one go on the S4.  But saying that, it wasn't the actual fault of the coil pack, but more down to the tw@t at Vindis who spilled oil into the hole where the coil fits - thus wrecking it!   

had to call out the aa this afternoon as the car broke down .. told by aa man that its quite comman,

They were quite endemic on earlier cars (Golf4, TT1, Audi B5&B6 A4, etc) with the 1.8 20valve turbo, but not heard anything on the later cars.

also had 246update  done yesterday now no revo will i have to pay full price again.

Wasn't that by Tom Robinson?

....It's not up to Revo. Jim at JKM explained to me why he's felt he had to introduce a charge but I've forgotten the detail!! Sorry, but it seemed to make sense at the time, or at least I could see his point of view.

I was told that Revo officially re-imburse their agents for a reflash.  Obviously there needs to be a genuine reason.

Could it be that JKM feel that Revo are not re-imbursing the "true cost" or going rate, and that JKM feel they need to "top-up" to cover? 

Naturally we would all prefer not to have to pay

yes car is under vw extended warrenty, aa fitted new coil but as his laptop failed he couldnt bill me. shame that.

But is the correct one?  Even though they all look very similar, there are many different types/specifications of VW Group coil packs, and for the AA wagon to be carrying the "correct" one seems a little unbelievable - though you may have been lucky?

  Engine cover can be taken off the Mk5 GTI in about 20 seconds, with no tools required!

Have to admit I've never tried it but I understand it can be broken quite easily if you're not careful?

When i got my coil pack eplaced by the AA, it wasnt the right one, so they told me to go to Seat when i could to get a correct one. It did work, but misfired under WOT.

....No, Revo don't usually re-imburse their agents for a reflash except in particular circumstances (I have had a free re-flash).  JKM, and others, now charge for their time - It can take 45 mins to reflash properly.

The trick is to be really careful when you first remove it.  Then, when it is off, smear the locating posts and rubber grommets with some silicone grease.  Don't use normal wheel bearing or CV joint grease, as the petroleum base will rot the rubber, and you will end up with an engine cover which removes itself.
